Occasionally a thought may drip out.

On this, the 6th day of our Queer Holy Month of Pride, I'd like to share some queer book resources! 🌈📚 First off, I've been creating/curating queer adult SFF lists since 2019. The latest has links back to all of the previous lists:

2025 Queer Adult Science Fiction & Fantasy Books

Welcome to the 2025 list of queer adult science-fiction and fantasy books! If you’re new to this dance, this list and the ones before (see: 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019) are my answer t…

Community defense is different here. Scary. Lonely. There's (some) safety in numbers, and they're hard to come by in our red exurban and rural communities. We're standing up anyway. So, today's front page print headline seemed quite fitting: Emotion, defiance as ICE roams western WI FUCK ICE.

ICE surge in western Wisconsin echoes trauma, intimidation of Twin Cities

Volunteers have raised money to pay rent, coordinated rides to school for children and donated groceries and household supplies.

Hi Bsky Fam- if you know of anyone who needs a wheelchair (with detachable leg extensions)- I’m weaning off mine & can’t store it. Pick up or drop off near DT Mpls.

Context: this speech is from SIR THOMAS MORE, a history written, as near as scholars can tell, in the early 1600s by 6 or 7 people including Dekker, Heywood, Chettle, Shakespeare, and Munday. It was never performed, because Jacobean England was a police state and it was banned by the censor.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue

If you're from outside MN and feel weird about sending a "Hope you're okay!" text to someone here, don't. Haven't talked since high school? Ex-coworker from 6 years ago? Already sent one a week ago? Doesn't matter. Every time I get one it's a big relief that people are paying attention.

So for Dems, the win is: reiterating 3 things that are already law, 1 thing that is a best practice, and 1 thing that was already a rule up until 6 months ago? From the bottom of my heart: fuck off with this. And they didn't even include ICE out of hospitals, healthcare facilities and daycares.

Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told: DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big) CBP stays at border warrants for arrests IDs, bodycams ICE out of churches, schools "That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod: newrepublic.com/article/2057...

And Minneapolis' Phillips neighborhood is named for Wendell Phillips, a fervent abolitionist. He was once asked why he couldn't turn down the heat in his rhetoric: why are do you always have to be so firery? Phillips' reply: "Yes, I'm on fire--becuase I have mountains of ice to melt!"

When you listen to the song you can hear below you might doubt me – but it is not a topical song written about recent events. It was written by Parlando alternative voice Dave Moore in 2014. Dave’s…

This week, the House votes on DHS funding. I will not vote to give ICE a single cent. No more blank checks for a rogue agency that operates above the law, escalates violence, and erodes our most basic freedoms.

We cannot normalize this federal occupation of Minneapolis. It is not normal to watch people abducted in front of our eyes—dragged from car windows, pulled from their homes, and children left without parents. This is not about immigration. It’s about unchecked cruelty.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention. The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.

Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.

Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.
