What word do you have to look up every time you run across it because you can’t remember exactly what it means? Mine is palimpsest.
This MPS school closure massacre is buried in a *118 page* powerpoint presentation. All 3 options close the same 14 schools, which is not actually having 3 options.
of local interest but... holy moly. my CDD rage is back. You're telling me you prevented all the kids between 394 and 36th street from going to Southwest to try to force them into FAIR and North, and now you're closing FAIR. Unbelievable. CDD was a plot to kill MPS. kstp.com/inside-your-...

I know this one! The farmer who owned the land adjacent to that street had a German name (Schultz or something), and the street was named after his family. To avoid being shunned during WWII, he rechristened it with the most American-sounding name he could think of.
I wonder why the good people of Eagan decided to name their main thoroughfare Yankee Doodle Dr. Always makes me feel like I’m in a cartoon or something.
Bewitching crescent moon tonight. I didn’t take a picture because I didn’t want to ruin it.

and you may not be aware of what the minneapolis school board is presenting tonight re: school closures because there has been no opportunity for community engagement and no transparency as these decisions are being made
There's a high stakes MPS School Board meeting tonight at 5:00, at which Superintendent Sayles-Adams and team will present three options for "Transformation" (eg school closures and consolidation) to the board for them to consider over the coming two months (1/) www.mpschools.org/about-mps/sc...
More Percival Everett quotes from the St. Thomas talk: “Just because it seems like no one’s listening doesn’t mean there isn’t worth to what you’re saying.” “If you write and you like what you’re writing, that’s your voice. Let the world come to you.”
“We are always telling quest stories and monster stories, not just Homer but ancient stories before those,” Percival Everett says. “The stories we tell are about being human.”
Percival Everett talks about how we listen to music over and over but less often re-read books. When he re-read Kurt Vonnegut at 35 after abandoning the author’s books at 20, “It was better,” he said.
Percival Everett is at the University of St. Thomas and said he got the idea for “James” while playing tennis.
I didn't really have an opinion about Ed Sheeran before but now I do. What a coward.
The singer was set to perform at eight more shows.
my favorite thing right now is the niche knitting communities obsession with THE GARMENT by robert cole it’s an ankle length turtleneck wool poncho with no arm holes and tassels at the hem. very dystopian, amazing.
Susan Sontag's 9/16/01 piece in The New Yorker got her crucified but it's one of the few things from that era that aged well. "'Our country is strong,' we are told again and again. I for one don’t find this entirely consoling. Who doubts that America is strong? But that’s not all America has to be."
This is spectacular, folks. We live in a moment in American history when the president and his administration are so racist and dumb that a toy company has to put out a statement saying: "OUR GIANT ROBOT THAT TURNS INTO A TRUCK DENOUNCES RACISM AND HAS NO CONNECTION TO THE CURRENT PRESIDENT."

This is still happening, and our neighbors are still in danger. The surge may be 'over' but our neighbors are still in danger.
at this point: carbon removal is, at best, essentially a research project. renewable expansion is a policy project
At the moment we have no real idea how to scale up carbon removal--it's a hair on the mole of the ugly backside of the global hydrocarbon industry But we do know how to scale up solar panels and wind turbines and batteries. So that's our job billmckibben.substack.com/p/facts-on-t...
folks, if phones/tech is a problem at home it’s def a problem at school. our classrooms have 30-42 kids in them for a 55 min period, teachers do not have the capacity to argue w/ children about their phones. we often just give up 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ teenage phone addiction is a problem we have to solve, together!

Hey friends! I am seeing that a certain Awful Lady and her unbroken record of sociopathic harm is back in the discourse. And boy. She really sucks. But maybe we can take this opportunity to highlight and celebrate children's authors who AREN'T transphobic pieces of shit. Great. I'll start...
The fair lacks local seasonal food. Corn roast is the gold standard. Grilled peach, sweet corn ice cream, apple fries and apple pies are pretty much it. Apples and corn. No cantaloupe, plums, pears, hazelnuts or walnuts. #1 in soy production but no fresh edamame, soy milk or tofu.
