I think this principle is also sort of true about ads for any campaign larger than a congressional district Still very needed, but social media posts, reactions to them, misinformation, how those posts spread orally, etc. seem to matter more than having a lot of money

In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname
And I think it's notable that the actual candidates recognize this, know that the factions have far more in common than separates them, and are quickly moving to mend fences and look toward winning in November.
My ice-cold boring take that will definitely not go viral is that a primary result with a margin of victory of roughly 1 percent tells you precisely nothing about The Future Of The Party.
vegetarian/vegan food has gotten better just in the 15 last years, I’m real-time I witnessed my mom having to by our food (we’re the two vegetarians of the family) on separate shopping trips to specific stores to stuff being available everywhere, including in most restaurants, including BURGER KING

Yeah for all my jokes, I actually think this has a chance to be a pretty good outcome for the party overall. A more conciliatory AES and a party establishment which doesn’t feel doomed may actually be pretty good for focusing on the GOP

this is probably the best news all night (to me anyway, idk much about Michigan) because we literally cannot have a functioning society if people think their should be no or limited taxes, we cannot function fiscally or even socially, so this is good to see… perhaps slopulism will end

I'll be disappointed if Stevens wins, but mostly what you should take away from tonight is that the coalition really is divided between factions with lots of genuine support, we can't wish the other side away, and we're all going to have to learn to live with each other if we want to win.
Ill be honest for the most part I dont care about Michigan, i think both candidates face an uphill general election situation (which sucks because Michigan should be a safe D win) but Hasan prematurely gloating is fascinating to me.

Serious answer is that both Locke and Hobbes believed in different structures of obligations between the state and the public while MAGA is animated by the idea that no one has obligations to anyone or anything at all

I see where people got confused when folks like AOC said voters wont support Republican-lite policies. She meant that voters wont support *centrists* who are Republican-lite, leftists being Republican-lite will work out great surely.

I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.
I actually think that the confusion over this question—the mistaken idea that perverts and preachers have opposing projects—is responsible for a lot of the stagnated and remedial quality of sexual politics discourses.

Both use sexuality to enact men’s domination over women. That one sect forces sex and the other prohibits it is largely a matter of taste.

This is the problem with populism: you cannot build a republic on a foundation of conspiracies. Corruption and special interests are real challenges, but reducing politics to “us” against “them” infantilizes the electorate and sows the seeds of authoritarian rule.

The difference between Will Stancil and Kat Abughazaleh is that Kat used a bad faith quote tweet dunk on Will to solicit cash donations to her campaign consulting business and Will refuses to let anyone give him money to fix the slashed tires on the car he chased ICE agents around in.
The claim that "AIPAC bought" the election Abughazaleh lost — to a candidate who accepted zero dollars from AIPAC — is absurd on its face. She's not stupid. She surely knows that. Unfortunately that leaves only darker explanations for this outrageous statement, and none of them are flattering to her
