somebody tell WaPo that techbros are back to being terrified of turbolibs instead of failfash, and that they should call papa jeff before they rattle this shit off again.

If you were thinking: what could Trump do to push his approval rating down even further and open up the possibility of a 1964/1980/2008 style victory for Dems in 2028? The answer is: put Stephen Miller in charge of everything. And guess what?

Senator Chris Van Hollen, one of the fiercest critics of US policy in the Middle East and a leader against Trump's war on Iran, says that the Democratic Party must be prepared to shut down the government in order to end the war.

Progressives Revive Vietnam-Era Strategy to Defund Iran War

Some lawmakers want to force a confrontation with Trump now, but Democratic leaders have not committed to acting before the party takes control in January.

i find it troubling the extent to which the progressive commentariat has settled on "this was an economy election." "this was about inflation." yes, people express extreme anger about the economy. but they are voting like trump just re-started the great depression. this should strike you as odd!

Wait for it: we will soon see opinion writers arguing that this election cycle - with Black people achieving high office in the South - means that it was perfectly fine to gut the Voting Rights Act.

Some more bonkers stats here: white voters in the South aged 18-29 are now essentially voting like northern Democrats. ('24-->'26 swing in parentheses): · Alabama: 45% (D+38) · West Virginia: 47% (D+41) · Kentucky: 47% (D+39) · Florida: 52% (D+28) · Georgia: 52% (D+32) · South Carolina: 52% (D+38)

Also, as of right now, Democrats are winning the House vote in *checks notes* Utah and *checks notes again* Indiana

Pet peeve: In situations like this, you will often hear newscasters say, "Now the new congressional majority will share credit and blame for the state of the country." That's maybe how things *should* go, but that's not what seems to happen. The president and his party are rewarded and punished.

IMHO, the synthesis is that a blue south is possible but it's only possible through educational polarization shifting whites with college degrees leftwards plus a supercharged black vote guarded by civil rights protections. There is no hidden reserve of communist rednecks.

Airship Chronos says TRANS RIGHTS@airshipchronos.bsky.social · 13h ago

"See? The South is indeed secretly progressive! If we just invest more in it, it will go blue more often!" No! Like yeah Southern libs may end up being Evylin Normielib, but that's b/c we're exposed to the full intensity of a 1 party state. But we're still a minority.

We can absolutely send a number of them to The Hague. We can try a number of them in military courts. We can commission a special federal court in D.C. to try their crimes. We can pack the courts and make sure they'll face justice when they do. All of this is possible, and must be done.

David Kaye@davidakaye.bsky.social · 23h ago

is "send them to the hague" a metaphor or a real thing people expect? because we really need to be realistic about what's possible (legally) over the next couple years and what is opened up for us after dems take the white house in 2029.

the tv commercial where stellar blade is your mommy who tucks you in at night, looks under your bed for monsters, gives you your plushie, and watches over you while you sleep is operating on psychosexual level not seen in mainstream game advertising since the 00s

that girl from stellar blade tucking a man into bedthat girl from stellar blade checking under the bed for monsters. there is a monster but it runs away.the girl from stellar blade found his plushie under the bed and has handed it to himthe girl from stellar blade is peacefully reading the stellar blade strategy guide next to his beside

yes! this is the Mamdani Lesson. for the general public, it matters a great deal that you are Doing Something. the priority for the next congress should be to move fast on the lowest hanging fruit. (i think this will require filibuster reform at the very least)

Conor P. Williams@conorpwilliams.bsky.social · 13h ago

Been thinking about this—substance matters but maybe the perceived momentum matters even more. Like, whether you lean more towards accountability or oversight or ___, the goal should be endless activity. Show the country that this Congress is On The Case(s). Democrats are the Do-Something Party.

the fact of the matter is that the public began to turn against trump in the spring of 2025 and that it was clear, by the end of the year, that trump was in terminal decline barring a drastic change of course. the Iran war made things worse, but did not set the path.

I have never seen a man and his clique so badly misread the reality before them. I think they believe the military and the public will fall in behind him, like some Christian Nationalist Spartacus fantasy. He truly seems to have no clue how despised he is, in the service or out of it

Post from CNN military reporter Haley Britzky: "Coordinated social media campaign underway at DOD." Beneath are numerous screenshots of DOD personnel, retweeted by top Hegseth spokesman and disgraced former congressional candidate Sean Parnell, posting memes of Pete Hegseth with the tagline "STAND. FIGHT. DEFEND THE REPUBLIC."
