This year's GenCon Writers Symposium was amazing! Check out this thread from @mauricebroaddus.bsky.social to learn why the convention is a must-attend for writers. Maurice and his staff have truly transformed the Symposium in the last two years. I can't wait to see what they do next time!
We survived GenCon Writers Symposium 2026, y’all (and that’s saying something considering the occasional tornado). I was so busy running around I barely got to enjoy it. Luckily, my interns and friends made sure to slow me down to experience what we were curating.

Listen, i work in historic preservation and conservation and this headline is misleadingly skipping the key point: this specifically and pointedly destroys the protections for Native American sacred sites. built heritage matters but not as much as the rights of indigenous folk.
A council packed with Trump appointees is poised to rewrite historic preservation rules. Critics say that could help him build his D.C. arch faster — and endanger important sites across the country.
Never let someone tell you that you must excuse owning enslaved people or participating in killing Native people because someone was "of their time". Silas Soule was of the same time.
Remembering Silas Soule, born OTD in 1838. American abolitionist, conductor on the Underground Railroad, military officer, and hero for disobeying orders to participate in Sand Creek Massacre and then giving evidence against his commander. Murdered 1865. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silas_S...

Also, as we all know, there are lots of rural areas that don't vote GOP. Coincidentally, they're all the rural areas that aren't majority-white. We do ourselves a real disservice pretending the "rural-urban divide" in politics is real. It ain't. Full stop.

No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.
AI labs buy, scan, shred millions of rare books
If you have retreated to physical books because the internet is too full of AI slop, bad news — now they’re shredding the books to feed their AI slop machines.

Seeing every small business, be it a local restaurant, a moving company, whatever, all having AI logos and AI ads, really puts into perspective just how many artists are out of jobs now. All those little sustaining jobs where someone just needed a quick thing for $50 to $200 are just gone.

Africa is smashing all the solar records. The continent installed more grid-connected solar in the first half of 2026 than in all of 2025, and with projects under construction the year could finish at triple the previous record. buff.ly/NirgzLn #ShareGoodNewsToo

The latest analysis from African Energy Live Data shows despite a slow 2025, solar capacity additions in 2026 have already surpassed each previous year. Falling costs and several recent agreements…

Lynne Freeman got a write up in the fucking New Yorker to turn people against Tracy Wolff and it absolutely fucking sucks that all the people who read that salacious piece will never know that Lynne Freeman lied to the court, conducted this litigation in bad faith, and had absolutely zero case.

the most annoying thing about these people is they're demanding that you be half-informed and fairly useless at everything. the way we win is specialization. find your things. get SMART about them. get GOOD at fighting for them. someone else's thing doesn't need you to barge in knowing nothing!
There’s a cottage industry of online grifters whose whole schtick is getting you to flagellate yourself for not investing yourself equally in every important thing happening in the world, when humans simply have limited time and capacity. You’ve gotta get your head above that stuff.
I think one of the worst things twitter/social media did to our brains is train us to think that we should immediately tell 50,000+ people our first knee-jerk opinion about every complex topic & then trap us in a corner where we have to humble ourselves for being wrong or double down x infinity
So much this. Also bring back being hesitant to speak outside your depth. It’s okay to say “I don’t know enough about this to have strong opinions yet.”
Get my book from a library! I was broke for decades. For more than half of my life, nearly all of my access to literature was thanks to having a library card. Feel no more shame in using yours than you would heap upon me. Libraries kick ass.
People are always so apologetic about getting our books from the library. And I'm just like, beyond just their massive civilizational utility, libraries are the best advertising an author could possibly hope for
