As a disabled person, having the impact level of my disability suddenly escalate as a result of a probable comorbidity is viscerally terrifying in a way that's difficult to express

Still working my way through this (on Episode Three) but Sophie and Norah's conversation about the former being "sorry for existing" hit like a truck, and Bums is a delight. Cheers to @sararoseg.bsky.social, @andrewhickey.500songs.com and team on a truly titanic achievement :)
Five autistics walk into an autism support group - before immediately realising what a stupid fucking idea that was. And that’s before the mysterious earthquake and useless magic powers. It’s a Superpower?? Chapter One is out!! allmylinks.com/itsasuperpower
Bill Oddie was quite a serious musician to the point where he seemed to be one of those jazz obsessed young men who found that, perhaps thanks to the timing needed for playing an instrument, he had a gift for being funny as well as music. See also; Spike Milligan, Mel Brooks, Humphrey Lyttelton...
@andrewhickey.500songs.com some FZ thoughts: Somebody said that the tuned percussion parts of his music were reminiscent of Carl Stalling, and I thought that was a novel comparison.
@andrewhickey.500songs.com Whenever I listen to you discuss jazz (from Charlie Parker on) or experimental music, I'm always like "Andrew makes this so accessible, I want some of that", but when I actually go try to research and listen to things, my brain goes "AAAHHH". (1/2)
@andrewhickey.500songs.com "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" is a Hell of a track. This is the stuff I'd wished somebody had told me about Zappa a long time ago. Music that mixes LA R&B with the avantgarde toward a serious social commentary. Extraordinary, yet, yes, thoroughly disturbing.
@andrewhickey.500songs.com very much looking forward to 185. You've sort of been my guide into Zappaland - you made him finally make sense and I enjoy the way you contextualise work against itself and the zeitgeist.
@andrewhickey.500songs.com The Stones do a credible "Ain't Too Proud To Beg". I don't have any albums post Goats Head Soup, but I'm reconsidering that. I do love Ron Wood in the Faces...
@andrewhickey.500songs.com was Yusuf/Cat Stevens a Small Faces fan, or were they just in the same scene? It's a bit odd that they both had a project about a small boy looking for the Moon narrated by a legendary verbally surreal British comedian...
@andrewhickey.500songs.com I'm wondering if you've thought about doing The Equals as a bonus? Really fascinating group I've been thinking about with the recent rise of reggae and rudie culture on the 500 Songs narrative.

You cannot trust information coming from Kash Patel's FBI. You cannot trust information coming from ICE. You cannot trust information coming the Trump administration. You cannot trust information coming from Republicans.
Trans joy will always exist because I exist, amd I am filled with it.
Why doesn't Kash Patel say who was shot and killed? Were detainees shot and one killed by ICE? "ANTI-ICE" scribbled on casing looks like a bullshit cover-up. Congress must investigate ICE allegedly shooting and murdering detainees.
The older I get the more I appreciate Tenth Planet Cybermen. They're never beating my beloved David Banks' Cyberleader, but damn they just keep getting creepier.
a black and white photo of a robot saying " care "
Alt: An original Cyberman from Doctor Who's the Tenth Planet. Weird, creepy, unsettling. A cheap costume that's way more than the sum of its parts.

Hey so just fyi, if you're abandoning trans rights you're abandoning all civil rights At that point what the fuck is the point of the democracy you're willing to sacrifice trans people for This actually isn't hard at all, quit making it pretend hard because you finally feel scared too

Republicans keep telling us not to "politicize" these shootings, but that's only because they understand that these shootings were entirely motivated by the political arguments they themselves have been making and entirely facilitated by the political campaign against gun control that they have led.
The Minneapolis shooter was apparently a fan of several mass murderers who were motivated by the same "Great Replacement Theory" that has pretty much taken over the Republican Party.
apparently she was also incredibly antisemitic with all sorts of slurs & dogwhistles written on her weaponry (idk, that feels like a more meaningful detail here) all that learning about her gender is helpful for is to not misgender her; beyond that, it’s fairly obvious why that became the focus
New from @evanurquhart.bsky.social. Local reporters have confirmed the Minneapolis school shooter was transgender. We know it's hard to determine what's rumor and what's truth, which is why we're bringing you this story to cut through the fear and confusion. www.assignedmedia.org/breaking-new...
it makes me so fucking mad that a person could not only do a mass shooting against innocent children, but do so knowing full well that their despicable actions will be used to demonize their entire community. fuck her so fuckjng much for this holy shit. absolute evil. may the children rest in peace

Ghouls already using this tragedy—our city’s 4th shooting in 24 hours—to stoke hate and violence against our trans loves. Please minimize your social media use for the rest of today . . . go outside, love on as many people as you can, and come to Lynnhurst for the 8 pm vigil if you’re able
OH HEY ITS THE EUGENICS OF DISABLED PEOPLE WE ALL TOLD YOU WAS COMING
BREAKING: President Trump signed an executive order directing states to criminalize and institutionalize people experiencing homelessness, addiction, and mental health disabilities.
We’re pleased to announce that we will be publishing the first full-length biography of prolific Doctor Who writer and script editor Terrance Dicks, written by Simon Guerrier with the cooperation of Terrance’s family. Written by Terrance Dicks is provisionally scheduled for publication in 2026.
What gets me is this is a quote. She's quoting Malcolm Mistry, who said "pregnant people", so it's not her job to "correct" him when she's supposedly reporting the exact words he said.
"Let's get past that dull prose so we can learn what is happening" misses the point of reading, just as AI art and AI writing miss the point of those activities. Boiling things down to a third grade reading level or a Cliff's Notes summary via machine is just pathetic.
This ties into my constant complaints about people obsessing over plot, plot twists and spoilers vs any other aspect of movies. If people are obsessed with melodramatic happenings and not the beauty of prose, there are media literacy issues at play that go deeper than understanding a metaphor
This article is going to turn me into the Joker. Literary style is not a puzzle you solve to get a little information treat 😩😩😩
This is how my country has treated the Middle East for my entire life. Expressing sorrow feels too shallow. But in this moment, all I can say is that I'm sickened for those killed and hurt.
