Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.
I’ve been doing mental health interviews for about ten years now, reading about it, writing about it. And I’m more convinced than ever that we’re collectively getting worse at the same rate that the toxic repercussions of capitalism, as it’s practiced in America, get more pronounced.

It’s such a complete social construct that I generally avoid the term, in favor of “neuronormativity.” I’m quite comfortable asserting that there is no meaning to “neurotypical” whatsoever, except “able to comfortably & consistently perform neuronormativity.”

The Codex Micro looks like a control panel from a futuristic TV show. Hollywood sci-fi user interfaces are usually designed to look cool and be *difficult to understand* — so the audience will think that the people using them are very smart. They’re not designed to be tools. This is a cosplay prop.

my feeling on this is that any system is going to have a certain number of grifters and you just have to accept that it is far more important to help deserving people than to not help undeserving ones. you can do your best but gatekeeping is generally much crueler than needed.
