After 11 years at Salon I'm going back to the blogging/freelance lifestyle. Technically, so is everyone, since we're the latest victim of AI

I am so fucking tired of "seeking justice" being framed as "getting even." Arresting and/or impeaching people who are legitimately guilty of actual crimes is not revenge. It is justice. Innocent people should be released from detention and guilty people should be in prison. Again, that is JUSTICE.

"I have no doubt that the devastating losses, while painful, will motivate the party to create an energized, more dynamic, and ideologically diverse coalition capable of attracting new voters, accommodating competing philosophies, and, of course, preserving all the racism." buff.ly/sHW6vxw

The Midterms Were a Reckoning, but I Have No Doubt the Republican Party Will Emerge Stronger, More Unified, and Still Extremely Racist

And more than that: people died due to decisions made by people in this administration. In ICE detention, by the closure of USAID, etc. Do these lives lost matter at all to anyone? Does this just get chalked up to being just politics? Will their families ever see justice?

The more I think about this the more irritating it is. It’s not just feckless, it’s actively & entirely voluntarily adopting the inevitable Republican talking point that accountability for rampant criminality is just “getting even.”

"The American people don't want us to get even; they want us to get things done on their behalf." House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who is now poised to become the next House Speaker, says that Democrats will focus on affordability concerns and not retribution after their midterm wins.

With the Canadian government saying it won’t issue visas for Russia to compete in the World Junior Championship and Czechia saying the same for the WU18 in January, the next two events on the IIHF calendar are set (the upcoming Women’s World championship was exempt due to the tight time frame).

Exactly this - people are usually keen on the reconciliation-part, while skipping truth, which is the prerequisite first step. And sometimes acknowledging the truth means that there can be no reconciliation...

Dear Mr. President: but we want accountability; you cannot have reconciliation without truth, a full reckoning of the crimes and cruelty of the past two years cannot be avoided, we cannot sweep this under the rug.

I think that so many elite institutions and people with important jobs staying on X persuaded many of them the median american voter was a greek statue avatar hailing the thousand year trumpenreich and complaining about race mixing bsky.app/profile/sara...

lmao at all the tech billionaires who saw 2024 and went "mandate???" and tied themselves and their entire fucking industries inextricably to a sinking ship

It’s not just Talarico beating Paxton. It’s Abbott losing. It’s Dan Patrick losing. It’s Mayes Middleton losing. It’s Bo French losing. It’s every single statewide race in Texas—including four (of the nine) seats on the Texas Supreme Court. Holy. Shit.

Reminder that tonight was only possible because judges repeatedly blocked efforts to undermine the elections. In a stable democracy, you don't need the legal system to prevent the President from subverting the result.
