I've got the official tie-in book to Oliver Stone's JFK, which contains not just the screenplay and some historical notes, but also reviews, news articles and outraged letters to the editor about the movie, and I strongly feel Christopher Nolan should now publish something similar for The Odyssey

The term 'state actors' is pretty funny because I just imagine someone with a 50 year career on stage playing Denmark
The Byrne’s Supper was a legendary night in the annals of Scottish comics fandom. My only regret is that I didn’t show up dressed as a character from Tutti Frutti, in tribute to the wrong John Byrne
About 20 years ago, we held a Burns Supper at our flat, with @stuwest.com @craig-mcgill.bsky.social @wilsondeluxe.bsky.social and others, but because we were (were?) comics nerds, we had a Byrne's Supper instead. We had readings from comics he'd scripted, and I read the Mr Immortal Memory.
Is it a sign of being internet poisoned if you can’t read Claude Debussy’s surname without smirking
mildly funny that X is having blazing rows about Nolan’s Odyssey because he cast black people in it and Bluesky is having blazing rows about whether a noted Homeric translator’s LRB review of it misses the point or not
[desperately trying to come up with some topical Odyssey movie takes] Men will literally live in seclusion on the island of Ogygia eating the apathy-inducing lotus flower for seven years rather than go to therapy
The current direction of tech is that any cybercrime that previously would have required hiring a dodgy Russian on the dark web will now be done by a bedroom hacker with an LLM, terrible news for the job security of dodgy Russian dark web cybercriminals
We all have that one homie who scholars theorize was not a single individual, but a collection of different authors

I have this weakness for spoonerisms which is probably pretty irritating for other people. Anyway every time I see the words "Abolish ICE" my brain rearranges them into

erotic thriller is such a great genre concept. like youre naked but you have to save the president
One of my favourite Shooter facts is that in the '90s he was going around telling people that the impenetrable storytelling of The Dark Knight Returns was dooming the comics industry. An idiosyncratic character (positive and negative), which this excellent article brings out really well
At @comicsjournal.bsky.social I reconsidered the life, the legend, and the largeness of Marvel Comics' Jim Shooter. I'm proud of this one, and I hope you like it. www.tcj.com/rr-jim-shoot...

There’s not much in common between Zohran and Mark Carney but they do both portray themselves as serious adults in a way that makes this culture war nonsense look tired and pathetic, and it would be nice if that’s the direction the culture is moving in
can't stop laughing at this Poilievre: "We will reinstill a warrior culture, not a woke culture."

scenes without mommy’s face in them are unnecessary in movies. it does nothing to advance the story of where did mommy go
DC keeps making Superman movies but somehow they never adapt his archetypal storyline, the one from the 90s where he becomes dangerously jacked and has to abandon Earth for space to safeguard humanity
Of course his full name is Flintabbateyagar Flonatinagon
Every once in a while I like to think of the fact that there is a town in Canada called Flin Flon, Manitoba, which is named after, and has a statue of, little-if-at-all-known fictional character Josiah Flintabbatey Flonatin. It makes me happy. FLINTABBATEY FLONATIN 😍 cityofflinflon.ca
