This should be put forward for urgent revision of protocols that make difficult prescriptions for antifungal medications like Nystatin or antibiotics. Undetected by normal tests or judged minimal, candidiasi can make huge damage to impaired exocrine glands in Sjogren's.

Data from 3,826 patients with Sjögren's disease showed infections & reinfections were more frequent in SjD vs matched controls with sicca symptoms and patients w/ SLE / RA. Younger patients and anti-SSA/Ro positivity correlated with higher infection & reinfection rates ACROR doi.org/10.1002/acr2...

Unique and shared ID profiles in SjD and top pathogens in the SjD patient population. (A) The Venn diagram illustrates the overlap of unique ICD-10 ID codes identified in the SjD patient population with those identified in control conditions, including SLE, RA, DE, and DM. The analysis focuses on ICD-10 diagnostic codes with statistically significant odds ratios. The table details the eight ICD-10 codes that were significantly different in the SjD cohort relative to the control cohort, of which seven were elevated in SjD and one (B95.0) was found to be decreased in SjD. §An ICD-10 code found to be less frequent in the SjD cohort compared to others. (B) This panel highlights the top eight pathogens identified across all ID ICD-10 codes in the SjD cohort, including candidiasis, herpesviruses, dermatophytosis, Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., osteomyelitis, Clostridium difficile, and Mycobacterium spp. The figure shows the percentage of the SjD patient population diagnosed with any ICD-10 code associated with these infections.

🧪 Nearly half of all hospitalized COVID-19 patients had a dormant virus they were already carrying that “woke up". This was a known phenomenon, but a new study provides additional data (n=1,154 patients) showing how viruses like Epstein-Barr and CMV reacted in response to COVID infections. #MedSky 🛟

Virus reactivations by SARS-CoV-2 could worsen initial symptoms and increase risk of Long Covid

Bur oaks were the shock troops sent by the invading forest to storm the prairie; fire is what they had to fight. Each April ... fires ran at will ... sparing only such old oaks"
