My being part of a union has had zero impact on my relationship with my mentors because they've behaved pretty well and so I haven't ever needed to speak to the union about them. It's quite a simple hack really, more bosses should try it

I think I am coming to adopt @notalawyer.bsky.social's snobbery. Cosmopolitan urbanite sensibilities are in fact just Better and I am tired of pretending otherwise. The people who think otherwise are simply ignorant and hateful, and it is mainly cowardice that prevents people from saying this.

the other thing is that the hypothesis is that intelligence is: (a) genetic, (b) heritable, (c) driven largely by SNPs, and (d) non-Gaussian in Black populations this is mathematically impossible!

the thing is that you have to believe to believe in the actual numbers the calipers guys have interpolated from studies by racists in the 1950s is that about 12% of Africans have the intelligence of a smart dog. observationally if you know of a single Black Ph.D candidate this is wrong.

I also thing this equilibrium would be preferable to the status quo, but the strategy that gets us there is "tit for tat", not "always cooperate".

Yes, I support academic freedom for racism, eugenics, Maoism, a belief in violence for its own sake, Murder Jason Lee Byas Thought, support for ISIS, support for total human extinction, and whatever else you have in mind. "Academic freedom but just for good people" is not a practicable principle.

When it comes to signing open letters about academic freedom, “We have to take a principled stand!” doesn’t work if there have been loads of other much more obvious and serious instances of violations of academic freedom to which you said absolutely nothing.

"Universiteit Gent should have such strong academic freedom protections that, as a collateral benefit, racists like Cofnas should keep their jobs" is a defensible position (and IMO the correct one). "Cofnas should not be fired under the university's current policy" is batshit insane.

Reading the *entire* Bible would be a great idea for schoolkids, largely because that's the best way to understand how incoherent it is. This proposal, however, is to require only *selections*, which of course will be tailored to furthering a Christian nationalist perspective. No way.

There's really no way to teach the Bible as literature in a highly Christian culture. You'll end up either teaching it as literature honestly and heavily annoying a lot of people, or teaching it as a religious text and losing the secular purpose
