The Syrian army has declared a state of military alert without announcing the reasons, sources tell Al Arabiya, as pro-Iranian media report on significant military mobilization of Syrian government forces near the Syria-Iraq border.

Four years ago my banner cause was less code, tighter programs, less power. Green thinking. People have been casually wasteful with compute for so long. Supercomputers in their pockets to look at themselves. "Imagine what we could do if we cared more to use less". Look at us now. Look at us go.

I'm pretty much only here to remind people that fascism & AI are inexorably intertwined. Thinking for ourselves is good: it's one of the best things a human can do. There's nothing I enjoy more than not being here & doing my research, but if we don't push back, the things we enjoy are under threat.

It feels many only know my work pushing back against AI, which is very fair — but I have a broader research interest, which also forms a protective belt against such forces, as well as being what I have been thinking about since discovering "cognitive science" in ~2006: 🍃 metatheory.space 1/

something* has to be done about e-scooters and motorbikes on sidewalks. people pushing strollers or enjoying a beer in front of their building while their kids play shouldn’t have to be watching for speeding vehicles, like just use the fucking road

A decade ago Palantir was largely unknown in the UK. It now holds public contracts worth hundreds of millions of pounds...

i don’t think there’s any doubt that the american salvador allende, if such a thing exists, either will be or is already germinating in the soil of the DSA organizing ecosystem. it’s DSA’s task therefore, to build the organs of popular power necessary to prevent the ostensibly inevitable Farce

compared to the 90s, 2000s amerikkkan pop culture seems violently anti-black. i’m sure there’s been lots of great stuff written on this but i’d rather just blame it on 9/11 and call it a day

i keep saying this but the only way to make a boycott work is if it is coordinated and targeted. you can't just ambiently expect everyone to boycott every evil company indefinitely and then scream at people for not following it

while i agree with the larger sentiment, i think it’s worth pointing out that the former by necessity requires the involvement of multiple distinct county/municipal bureaucratic apparatuses operating within their own unique political terrains whereas the latter obviously involves only one

It’s a Fair Question….. “Why is it that it takes 900 years and 5000 impact studies to build high speed rail but a 5 minute city council meeting is all it takes to approve a massive data center?”

I do think it's important to keep in mind that the only reason some conservatives have turned on, say, concentration camps for immigrants is because they happened at the same time as things getting more expensive. If you disassociate those policies from treats they will have no problem

Now I'm less Angry on the Internet I do think that part of what's happening is that people are not actually used to a healthy political culture wherein you do a pilot scheme to see if something works and discuss its comparative merits. They're used to excuses for inaction and bad faith quibbling.

But a rabidly anti-intellectual culture wherein asking about whether a proposed means is the best way to achieve social ends is... well it would destroy socialism, utterly. In fact I think the failure of previous socialist states are not unrelated to developing this exact culture.

RESOLVED: 1. The Prohibition Party stands for the prohibition of every form of exploitation of sentient being by sentient being and all things that facilitate it 2. The Party seeks to use all legal means to secure this noble goal 3. With regards to the underground and illegal resistance movement,
