An excerpt from SmokeWIP, a sage owen romance novel WIP. Text as follows: He scrutinized the details, took his time now that he had this freeze-frame of them side by side. Cory was a little shorter than Billy, not as broad through the shoulders and narrower through the hips, but more defined muscle. His eyes were a soft, warm, sun-faded turquoise made brighter by his tan. For the wedding both men had cleaned up, shaved the enviable crust of stubble they could grow in a matter of days, leaving two mustaches with shockingly different attitudes. Billy had squarer, gentler features, while Cory's were carved and angular. Cory's hair was blonder, whimsical with its unserious shag cut. Billy's smile was symmetrical, honest. Cory's was uneven, devilish. He'd had that knowing, mischievous mouth all over him. Heard it spill some truly spectacular filth with the familiarity of a seasoned veteran. Cory knew his way around a bedroom. He'd been careful and gentle when it mattered, and hard and rough when that mattered too. His eyes drifted closed. He tossed his phone aside, took the memory of the night and built on its foundation.

Fine. She had actually said fine. As if it were no big deal. And now, she was here. And it wasn’t fine at all. Silk Lake—it sounded smooth, pure, idyllic. But where Afya crouched among the reeds, a warm, floating layer of plant parts and dead insects covered the water. Roots and scratchy bits brushed against her legs. She could feel them through the fabric of her pants, glad she’d indeed forgone a change of clothes. Maybe after this, she’d peel off her tunic and pants and feed them to a fire.

Okay I’m going to brave and share the (VERY ROUGH DRAFT VERSION) opening scene of an original piece I’ve been working on. 🙈🙈 it’s been like 12 years since I’ve written an original story so please be nice. TW for attempted suicide in this scene!

Snippet from Ellipsus in the mermaid theme. The text says: Ocean waves lapped at Elliot's prone body, splashing him with salty water that managed to soak every orifice and crevice he had. At some point, the water got into his mouth and caused him to cough violently, jolting him awake. He slowly pushed himself up in the wet sand, the particles clinging to his skin, hair, his clothes—an itchy, grimy layer that coated him much like the fog in his head clouded his mind. "Fuck." He blinked, everything slowly rushing back to him. He was still alive. That hadn't been his plan at all. On the horizon, the sun was beginning to rise in pink and orange rays. A sunrise he wasn't supposed to still be here for. Hanging his head in his hands, Elliot screamed while nobody was around to hear. That sunrise felt like a taunt, a reminder how he was such a failure that he couldn't even end his life on his own terms.
