Licensed to ply for hire and licensed to serve the sacraments. Dispatches from the front lines of English #church management and UK #taxi driving. Trying to sing the Lord’s song in a strange land.
Bonnie wants you to draw her like one of your French girls.
Not a fan of heights, so didn’t do too badly getting up the bell tower in Cádiz
I’m pretty sure I’m going to put the church heating on next week. The time has come.
editing on the fly this morning, whilst the service is in progress …
I enjoyed an Urban Geology walk in the City of London with Ruth today. A great way to spend the afternoon, very interesting, highly recommended
My last #urbangeology walk for this year with London Walks! This walk, around the city of london on Saturday is booked up on the website, but there ate often a few no shows, so there’s always spaces for a few people to turn up on the day! www.walks.com/our-walks/ge...
Thursday night, ran errand for housebound neighbour to #Kidlington Sainsbury’s: parked up in a part of the car park I’ve never used before. Caught these leaves, on the Autumnal turn from green to red. “That is beautiful” I said to myself.
My mate from Church called me (on my day off), stopped off in churchyard on my way home, took photo, to help him locate the site of interment of his wife’s cremated remains, ahead of getting a ledger stone. “where the bare patch is, mate,” I say, “I can show you after worship on Sunday, if you want”
Ran out of ideas for the last of the garden apples so stick-in-a-loaf-cake it is 🍏
Another in my series of church notices: PLEASE DO NOT MOVE (OPEN OR CLOSE) THIS DOOR I fear this will cost the Church around £7 to £10K, as this door is no longer manufactured, but the mechanism is an English engineering classic
I saw a church bulletin recently that looked like it was made on a typewriter and it was really good for my soul.
I had someone comment on my area code and they asked where I was from. “Oh well everyone *SAYS* they’re from Charleston, where are you *really* from?” So I smacked him with the “I was born in Roper, raised on Anson street, and lived on East Battery in college. Is that enough Charleston for you?”
Lovely walking tour of Warsaw today with @ww2girl1944.bsky.social. Highly recommend her if you need a tour guide.
I love that Merton is not a saint and never will be. Our sins help us understand God.
I'm not sure the churchmanship is relevant, but we are informal / evangelical slightly charismatic open Anglican / we *do* like clean and neatly kept church linens, for the glory of God. C
#Church friends: following the retirement of our church linen person, I'm looking for any resources / articles on the best ways of storing church linens, after they have been laundered / ironed and before they are used in the Lord's house. We've previously been using plastic storage boxes. Thx. C

Do you love beaglesong? Are you looking for a cute house in Very Leafy, Very Upper NW DC? My beloved neighbors are moving to the Twin Cities and just put their house on their market. If you or somebody you know is looking for a house on a friendly block in Shepherd Park w/a great screened porch, +
refilling the new #church lighters, ahead of #CandlelitCarolService, in December. I know - I like to be prepared a long way, in advance.
Also, if I can have HALF as interesting a life as Kristofferson, I will still have truly lived. Man was wild.
I maintain that Janis Joplin’s version of Me and Bobby McGee is inferior to Chris Kristofferson’s because it’s a much better song if she hadn’t gender swapped it.
I have to share the news of these almonds, which my niece's future in-laws sent when her engagement was announced. They look like they are dusted with gold but they are actually dusted with cocoa and omg. I have been parceling them out for weeks. I may have to get these for everybody for Christmas.
the #church timer, for the LED floodlights: they are the same time every night, and not adjusted with the nights drawing in, like the Narnia lamps are. I dream of having broadband in the church, so I can adjust this - and the heating - remotely.
So...someone actually did buy it. Should I warn them that they need to probably insulate the pipes? My wife tells me to stay out of it and I’m just going to open a can of worms, and I kind of agree but on the other hand feel like they should probably know.
The adult kids of the late owner of the house behind us put it up for sale and they’re asking for a price about twice what it’s worth (it’s half our size but the same price). If they do manage to sell it, should probably warn the new owners that their pipes have a habit of bursting in the winter.
This is a stupid level of bureaucracy to access a church. Just ask folks at the door to pronounce the word "Sciennes" if you want to correctly identify local residents
I was wondering about that too. I just went to their website to check and you can apply for a residents' pass, which it says will be activated when you go with some proof of residency: tickets.stgilescathedral.org.uk/book/residen...
