Pew tested AI synthetic surveys against actual survey data. Conclusion: “This experiment taught us that, at this time, AI models are not an adequate replacement for traditional polling on topics of broad public importance.” This is an all time bad idea. No need to hedge with “at this time.”

Don't get me wrong, I believe in dealing with things at the lowest possible level, but at some point we need to be done talking in circles and do something. Lots of teachers are scared to escalate, add pressure, or get in trouble, so I try to add tools to our collective toolboxes to get shit done.

Kids keep asking why I wear a mask and I have started asking "Do you know what the immune system is?" They are <10yo, so no. Then I get to tell them how everyone has a system in their body that fights bacteria & viruses, and mine doesn't work so good. It's always a great learning moment.

The First Amendment prohibits Trump from punishing journalists because he doesn't like their coverage, just as it prohibits him from punishing universities because he doesn't like their courses, or from punishing law firms because he doesn't like their clients.

Y'all, substituting is not for the weak. Especially in Kindergarten in September. Holy hell. AND, in my 4th year as a specialist, wow does it give you some perspective if you haven't been a classroom teacher in a bit. It should 100% be required for district office, coaches, and administrators.

I'm legitimately asking, take away the specific words @aaron.bsky.team, are you suggesting it is OK for people to reply to marginalized groups and say "it's your fault you [were/are] being subject to genocide". This is the implication of your post and it is worrying.

Are they threatening trans users directly? No. Trans folks in the US have been targeted repeatedly. That's awful and you have my sympathy. Within the context of a single post we wouldn't consider it a direct threat or targeting a protected category. Ie send trans folks to concentration camps.

A thing that is weird and frustrating about these “a famous person said something about Palestine and then got in trouble” moments is that none of them ever lead to actually talking about Palestine - they just lead to us talking about the famous person and who’s mad at them.

Having said this - celebrity is a whole extra component. Think of celebrities almost like plural systems, because that’s what fame is for most people. Enforced plurality. A celebrity is both a person, and a brand. And we don’t always know which one’s doing the talking.
