Remembering how during the Claudine Gay scandal, one of its biggest promoters of the story was Bill Ackman. Then someone uncovered that Ackman's own wife was a professor alleged to have committed much more serious academic misconduct than Gay and then nothing happened to her.

From this review- “Think of all the diligent, decent black academics who have been lumbered with the embarrassment of having Arday as a figurehead” - no, think of *why* black academics are held collectively responsible in ways that white academics are not

I think functionally all of the post-resignation coverage that was about him rather than Cambridge was excessive (e.g. this poisonous review of a book nobody is going to buy - why)

once again this is useful for demonstrating that the media that spent 25 years using "gotta support the troops we love the troops do you support our brave troops" as a cudgel against anyone opposed to war were full of shit this entire time. they never even cared a little tiny bit about the troops

Q: The family members of US service members are concerned about the conditions on the USS Lincoln TRUMP: No they're not Q: Has the deployment gone on too long? TRUMP: No no no. Not nearly long enough.

Indiscriminately putting ankle monitors on an entire nationality, thousands upon thousands of people living in a small community, all of whom were living here entirely legally until a few days ago when you revoked their legal status. It’s an authoritarian nightmare.

the concern with the Arday story isn’t the fact of the media coverage, it’s the volume. it’s perfectly reasonable that there would be some coverage of the story, and basically indefensible that there was as much as there was.

Terry Watkins@gerrygow.bsky.social · 3d ago

The alternative to this is people lying with impunity, with the media knowingly covering it up. It's an awful story. And the media will get a lot of the blame. But those who perpetuated the lies and shielded Arday from facing up to them deserve more of it.

Every now and then someone reads the Art of War and wonders “Why was Sun Tsu writing this remedial shit, who was this for? It just says to feed your troops and make them happy!” and the answer is: it’s for the current President and the Secretary of Defense

These are people who legally entered this country and now, because of ancestry and a conspiracy theory pushed by an aspiring politician, are being pursued by the government and fitted with special monitoring devices. This should remind of the darkest events in history.

the bluesky wokescolds are at it again. you won't believe what they're furious about this time, it's just my new essay "i enjoyed my time working with fascists and appreciate all they've done to grease the wheels of my career"

Part of the reason DEI, in particular, has proven notably durable into the age of performative anti-wokeness is that a lot of private entities genuinely believe in the underlying principle! They know that having a more diverse workforce actually helps them function better in different ways.

Not to gargle my capitalist owner's business but I work for a decently large corporation and "diversity and inclusion" is still pretty front-and-center in our main internal HR portal.

What people call “woke 1” was just elites deciding certain cultural norms were dominant, largely through Twitter exposure, and insincerely and clumsily performing them for status. Then Twitter changed, other norms seemed dominant, and elites insincerely and clumsily performed them for status.

I will never waver from my belief that we just need to ban all online gambling - you can still *gamble*, but you have to physically go to a weird-smelling casino to do so first.

It's honestly so crazy to me that we're facing a technological revolution that could displace millions of jobs in the middle of a housing affordability crisis and every day we talk about whether a trans woman is playing sports or if someone has a non-Anglo name.
