People have lost their minds over this because it’s Stancil saying it but it’s obviously true. We *know* people spend money on things for reasons like: Looks nice Impresses friends (makes enemies jealous) Demonstrates wealth Not: Is made of the secret materials that can’t break
Yeah, I’ve been thinking about this, and there are lots of other reasons than durability that products become more expensive. Brand name. Trendiness. Luxury materials. Those aren’t meaningfully correlated with durability.

E.g.: if you pay $5 for a whatsit, it lasts a year. If you pay $10 for a whatsit, it lasts 3 years. This is an absolute mathematical requirement for the theory to make sense.
1. "Redwall" by Brian Jacques or "Charmed Life" by Diana Wynne Jones. I don't reread books much these days—though I just did "Dubliners" randomly, and I'm currently revisiting "Frankenstein" with a few pals—but those were my two favorite books as a child and I read them over and over again.

in fact, there's good evidence to suggest the opposite is true. most studies show that 'luxury' items have much higher markups, and that the 'value' / durability of expensive consumer goods is actually something like a logarithmic scale

Worth noting that in 2018, Lauren Underwood and Haley Stevens each flipped a red House seat to blue and have held that seat ever since. The test of a party is the ability to win on the other party's turf. For all the talk of DSA ascendancy, they've not once flipped a seat.
