You can and should point out that police killing people daily is the "norm" in America. But that doesn't mean you *accept* the normalization of this violence and the way some people rush to smugly point these things out contributes to collective fatigue. Your horror has been stolen from you.

Someone today asked me how we know an abandoned car is ICE-related. It’s pretty simple. When someone’s been kidnapped by ICE, there’ll be piping hot coffee in the cup holder. Maybe a bag of fresh McD’s left on the passenger seat. Purses, backpacks still there. A life violently disrupted.

European clubs, especially the smaller ones, make money by finding and cultivating talent that they can later sell to bigger clubs. In North America, the incentive is to fleece middle and upper class families on the dream of scholarships and/or going pro, regardless of the kid’s talent.

the idea that “playing sports” has to contribute to an admissions profile or be some Golden Ticket, instead of mostly “socializing and learning how to win and lose with some style and grace”, it incentivizes Spending More, Optimization, Specialization, Ref Abuse, all our familiar problems.

a lot of people give t4t a bad rap because of the math bloat and overly abstracted powers, but it was a necessary step between the crunch of t3.5t and the mainstream success of t5t.
