Next podcast will be about all of the weird, totally inexplicable Canadian references that litter the Gundam franchise. Does anyone know of any good deep cuts on this? I'm always discovering more, like how Gundam X has an entire arc set in an interesting interpretation of Fort Severn, Ontario.

Recently went through Yokoyama's adaptation of Suikoden and was struck by how much of the cast was represented in Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still. For those interested, I put together a quick reference chart comparing the original manga incarnations with their OVA counterparts!

Yasuhiro Imagawa’s 7 episode OVA Series Giant Robo(1992 - 1998) features many characters from manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. Of these, his 1967 - 1971 adaptation of Suikoden (The Water Margin) is quantitatively the best represented. your favorite art is almost definitely in conversation with other art in different mediums. please please pleas expand your horizons. visit a museum you typically wouldn't, watch a french new wave film and go down a rabbit hole, go see a live band you've never heard of. be curious about the world.

Watch anime but also watch other things. Watch movies. Listen to music. Go outside of geek media. Outside of genre. Watch the things that inspired the media you engage with. Broaden your horizons or your interests risk becoming just a recursive and cannibalizing as the industries that produce them.
