Writer and editor interested in history, health care, politics, MST3k and Rifftrax, old movies, books, more books, and all the books. I block Al Franken apologists and people who ask "Are you AI?" when they can't answer an honest question.

Cannot emphasize enough that the morass we find ourselves in everywhere is a result of this commitment to white supremacy. The eugenic health policy, the belief and desire for US autarky, meddling & murder in Latin America, the half-cocked belief that the US could bully Iran- it really is.

I don't really know what to do with these pieces, because: 1. They refuse to used "illegal" & "unconstitutional" & "corruption" in the heds, deks, ledes, or body text 2. They disappear from the front page/headlines within 36 hours & never become THE NARRATIVE, contra EMAILS & BIDEN IS OLD, etc.

If they were so worried about this they wouldn't be destroying education and they'd give af about the affordability of higer education. This is just more xenophobic propaganda. This admin is telling kids you don't need college, go be a plumber. Nothing wrong with being a plumber. Just sayin.

“I've seen secularists bemoan greater Democratic comfort with religion as a kind of erosion of church and state from the left. But they miss the point…It is purposefully and strategically countering a dangerous ideology rooted in a form of Christianity.” @hollybfletcher.bsky.social with a must-read

This piece was inspired by @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social and @robertpjones.bsky.social new books and argues for a messaging strategy tailored specifically to white evangelicals, probably the most influential bloc in our politics and 1/3 of Trump's coalition. www.liberalcurrents.com/you-cant-run...

Universities bring in foreign students ... to undercut the wages of American residents? What? This is exactly backwards. Foreign students subsidize the tuition of American students. I wonder why the VP who follows Nazis online has this all wrong. Probably an innocent, non-racist mistake.

Vance: "Some of America's most elite universities bring in foreigners to undercut wages of American residents. There are 9 universities in particular we believe merit an investigation. Those are Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Brown, the University of Pittsburg, UC Davis, Cal Tech, Arizona State, and MIT."

I've got the quote for this, unfortunately. "Women quickly learn that rape is only a crime in theory; in practice the standard for what constitutes rape is not set at the level of experience of women's violation but just above the level of coercion acceptable to men." - Judith Lewis Herman

They're so desperate to make AI happen in everyday life that they're promising 3 days work weeks & think folks forgot that they dragged their workforce kicking & screaming back to the office for 5 day work weeks despite said workforce letting the company know remote work was better & healthier.

They think we’re all idiots As Jon Stewart says — if the goal is guaranteed income and jobs, why wait? Why is it only “socialism” if we don’t hand them trillions of dollars first?

"Trump moved the ethical line" perfectly reflects the collaborationist thought processes of NYT. No he didn't. The ethical lines were the same before as they are now. It's the collaborators who have moved the lines—but to be clear, they never had any in the first place.

An Outrage in 2019. No Problem in 2026. Trump Has Moved the Ethical Line.

The president’s decision to hold an international summit at his own private golf club, an idea rejected in his first term, illustrates how much he has shattered norms.

In the presidential immunity case, the court considered a hypothetical of a president ordering Navy Seals to assassinate an American political rival. Trump's lawyer argued unambiguously yes, since it'd be an "official act." The Roberts Court ruled in his favor, 6-3. Why wouldn't Trump believe this?
