What's a picture you've taken that shows a real testament to public policy? My fav is the Hollywood sign directly between the spans of the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge, taken 2 miles off the coast. That's 27 miles away! 2 decades ago you wouldn't even been able to the mountains.

What if instead of starting substacks in twenty-fucking-twenty-six people learned to give one iota of a fuck about whether they want to associate themselves with nazis.

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

This is the sort of hatred that nyt’s Sulzberger and his lieutenants Kahn, Ryan, Healy and Paul legitimised. They knew where their propaganda campaign would lead.

The fiction of a “clever center right” was only ever real for the sort that thought, ‘In this diversity of ideologies, we must give equal weight to the people who think kids should starve and the people who don’t’? The NPR-style of platforming disdain for life in the name of telling “both sides.”

i can understand, to an extent, missing a "clever centre right", but that is gone they *chose* to throw their lot in with team fascist & bsky libs being a bit nicer won't suddenly change that www.liberalcurrents.com/liberalism-d... bsky.app/profile/youn...

Just so everyone knows, this is a tried-and-true mainstream media tactic. For progressives/leftist candidates, every election is a “crucial test” and any loss would serve as proof to the media that the latest left-side moment is at its end. Any win, though, just means it’s time to find a new test.

Michigan will provide another crucial test of whether progressives can not only keep up their winning streak in safe-blue seats but also break through in battlegrounds crucial for control of Congress. The stakes for the Democratic Party are huge.

They're probably hoping you won't hear about this. But tomorrow in TX, Tarrant County officials meet to vote on a GOP plan to cut almost HALF of Election Day voting locations, plus 8 early voting locations, some of them on campuses. Not hard to guess why. fortworthreport.org/2026/07/30/t...

Tarrant County considers cutting 140 Election Day polling sites for November

County commissioners vote Aug. 4 on proposed reductions to the number of early voting and day-of sites for the midterms.

It's rarely ever said so outright but basically the thesis of the Stevens surrogates as of today is that Arab Americans cannot possibly have any legitimate grievances about someone who is openly and proudly supportive of a country that kills their families lol

If Stevens wins, she will have to engage in very little "healing" behavior before November. AES and his fans? I don't even know if they care about healing. It seems, from their behavior, they want harm. Harm towards the Democratic coalition. We'll have to see what happens.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

Around 20,000 unaccompanied minors nationwide are set to lose legal services when the federal government ends a contract Friday. “They’re cutting off access to lawyers for these children, but they need lawyers now more than ever."

This is a story about the President and several of his hand-picked appointees all committing crimes and blatantly lying to the public while stealing public funds and abusing the criminal justice system, but the NYTimes describes the situation like they're recapping a soap opera.

Another example of the problem with the fixation with Trump’s putative emotions: here a story about the Trump administration’s corruption, incompetence, and venality is framed as one about Trump’s “wrath.” www.nytimes.com/2026/08/01/u...

Massachusetts is unsealing records of generations of disabled people and the violence many faced while institutionalized. Advocates told me their stories should serve as warnings to us as demands to return to institutionalization are ramping up under Trump 2.0.
