Bike parking enabling 60 hospital staff to cycle to work is a win for the taxpayer
Comment & Analysis: A cost of €85,000, or €1,416 per space, for a secure bicycle shed for the National Maternity Hospital is cheap compared to building car parking, which is estimated to cost €5,000 to €85,000 per space in 2025. Added to this are the health benefits of staff cycling to work, including the general finding that active commutes mean fewer sick days (sources: …

we could test “both are hazardous to pedestrians” by looking up the number of pedestrians that are killed by drivers and cyclists. I’ll let you look it up because learning you do yourself is more likely to stick.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council's contractors are making progress on the Dún Laoghaire Central active travel project, which includes sections of four roads linking into the town. The two sections which are currently finished are Kill Ave and Glenageary Road Upper, with the other sections still under construction. Around 11 months ago, this website reported on the project's progress, with small sections of the route open.

Two-way cycling on Chapelizod Hill Road to be provided for in new plan
Dublin City Council plans to provide two-way cycling on Chapelizod Hill Road, linking Ballyfermot and Chapelizod and wider planned cycle routes in the area. The short section of route would help link part of the Liffey Valley to City Centre BusConnects Scheme, which is under construction, to existing and planned routes around Chapelizod. The project would include a two-way cycle path along the current short one-way section of the road, and a cycle path in the westbound direction along most of the road from the one-way section to Kylemore Road.

All the hysteria and rhetoric that consumed a community around these bike lanes ended and now no one talks about them and people use them (including those with mobility devices) all the time for work, school, play and everything in between. Change is hard for some people but we all adapt.

On top of everything else that's happening on our roads, drug-driving appears to be endemic. Every morning on my commute, the stink of hash in the air is everywhere as cars go past me. But I hear that the RSA will be doing a new campaign advising Ppl that this is a bad thing. Whoop de Doo.

Music-filled cycle to bop around Dublin this evening from 6pm
Dublin''s monthly BikeBop critical mass cycle continues this evening, Friday, July 31st, at 6pm and takes around an hour.. Unlike critical mass cycles decades ago, which were seen as more adversarial, it is described as a "fun 1hr cycle calling for better and safer cycling infrastructure." It's a casual affair and a great way to start a Friday night with music pumping from speakers on cargo bikes which take part in the cycle. Organised by campaign group I Bike Dublin, the cycle kicks off as usual from Parnell Square North.

This is very important and we need a big campaign highlighting what the differences are between legal e-bikes (Electrically Power Assisted Cycles) and illegal vehicles. On Facebook, various AGS accounts continue to wrongly describe illegal e-motorbikes or e-mopeds as "e-bikes", which they are not.
Gardaí need to make clear distinction between electric bicycles and illegal bikes, says Cllr A councillor and chair of a Local Community Safety Partnership has said that there is a need for Gardaí to make a clear distinction between lawful pedal-assisted bicycles and illegal motorised vehicles....

Read this. It’s shocking. It’s murder. Not manslaughter, murder. He did it on purpose and then tried to ridiculously lie about it. But here’s the main point. Every politician, media person, ANYONE who has deliberately sought to “other” or lessen the humanity of people on bikes is an accomplice.

As a cyclist, I have absolutely no problem obeying any law so long as it is based on reason and facts. Bringing in reg plates, mandatory hiviz and helmets is not backed by any study to make cycling safe. It’s a reactionary policy by someone who is either too stupid to know that it or doesn’t care.
Just to put some facts into the serious injuries happening to children <16 on our roads. @RSA data: “Between 2020 and 2024, 39 children aged 0–15 years lost their lives on Irish roads, while a further 584 were seriously injured. Children made up 5% of total road fatalities and 8% of serious
