Is there anyone who wants to go to MicroConf Iceland but hasn't bought a ticket yet? A team member was supposed to join me, but is now unable to. So I have an extra ticket + extra hotel room. Ticket is at the spring rate (so roughly $200/€100 less than current price). lmk!
Only need 12 more needed for this one, and it's easily the closest amongst the top 4 yet.
What CSS property do you always have to look up the syntax for? Most of us have to look up stuff all the time, but there's probably that one you know you're going to look up before you even try 😅 asked-100-devs.netlify.app
they should have tried to pour gasoline on their pants and see what happens when they put a match to it - would be also a highly interesting scientific experiment!

Abdul El Sayed's open-mindedness on the question of how to actually resolve the question of Palestine is one of the best indicators of his overall intelligence and sincerity. Policymakers in DC should adopt a rights-based approach which prioritizes ending the occupation and apartheid systems.
El-Sayed: "I believe in equal rights to peace, dignity, and self-determination, for Palestinians and Jewish Israelis alike... If that’s 2 states, I’m for it. If it’s 1 state, I’m for that. If it’s this 'land for all' model, ... or whatever they decide." www.newyorker.com/news/the-new...
By me at this.weekinsecurity.com: A major online ads company that claims to serve 1.5 billion ads a day was hacked and began serving malware designed to steal a person's crypto. This is the latest perfect example why you should use an ad-blocker.

NEW: Several hackers have been stealing $130 million — and counting — in Bitcoin from the owners of supposedly secure offline hardware wallets. By knowing how to make the keys, the hackers did not need to break into the safe that holds them. They essentially figured out how to cut keys at scale.

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
I've been looking at Data Engineer roles and a lot of companies are combining either Data Analyst + Data Engineer roles or Data Scientist + Data Engineer roles Two jobs with the salary of one 🥲
We’re also funding death squads but what’s really offensive is that somewhere out there a poor person might be able to eat

The NYT published a missing chapter of the DNC “autopsy,” titled “What Happened in 2024” which offers criticisms of party consultants who are “self-enriching” and out of touch with the concerns of ordinary voters.

I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.

I'm doing my monthly check-in as part of ADHD coaching. I was looking through my July goals to see what I got done. It was a great month! I finally finished this 30 hour SQL course. I completed a Data Modeling course. And I wrote a blog post on SQL! 🎉
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
None of this effortless, and all of it includes the particular way my brain works, 50 years of coping strategies, and a lot of ups and downs. But this is how these combine.
Is it really this effortless? Because I am currently on non-stimulant medication, and it works well enough to get to the functioning todo list stage (most of the time), but I still need that strong system in place or it doesn't really help. Just doing things still looks like magic to me.
U.S. biotech giant Amgen confirms July hack, and says proprietary data, patients' health data, and other information was exfiltrated from its cloud environments (Amgen runs largely on AWS). Amgen says volume & types of data stolen "could be sensitive." Amgen says it serves 17 million patients. 🫠
BIG DEAL on voting rights this morning: Governor Spanberger just restored the voting rights of some 60,000+ Virginians. Her move reverses Youngkin's abrupt decision in 2023 to end automatic voting rights restoration, which brought Virginia back to a system of default lifetime disenfranchisement.
Virginia Governor Restores Voting Rights for Thousands With Past Felony Convictions - Bolts
This is the only state that, absent action by the governor, bans people convicted of any felony from voting for life. Virginians have an opportunity to end that system for good in November.

Google essentially killed its most useful product (search) and actually killed its most useful cover for AI (alphafold)... the pretense is over and it's all mask off now I think.

If you're anti AI & making claims that some of the models under the AI umbrella are ok because they seem to be serving scientific goals, then you fell for a type of hype. One from the 2010s; stats models aren't blessed by their use in science and they can erode our thinking. bsky.app/profile/oliv...

Keen to see if any of the companies that were hacked by OpenAI or Anthropic will sue them. Someone has to take responsibility for this, and the blame is almost entirely on the leaders of these AI companies. Alternatively, hacking is just legal now until a court says otherwise? What a fucking mess.
Sorry: they only did reviews to see if their software had unlawfully and without authorisation accessed networks of third parties? This wasn’t a defined control *during* their “testing”? This is extreme negligence at least. cyberscoop.com/anthropic-cl...

i don't believe anyone has "good-faith" concerns about trans women in sports in 2026. there's been too much time to hear the actual evidence, the actual people affected, and the role the debate plays in attempts to purge trans people from American life. anybody picking that side has made a choice
