I have a real issue with the misrepresentation I see regarding performance characteristics of older hardware. Everyone seems to have put on rose tinted glasses when discussing this topic and regularly misreprsent how things actually were. This is why showcasing vintage hardware is so important!

Not your usual floppy disks! These are 2.88MB and were found in a thrift store a few years ago. Finally got access to a machine with a drive to format and check them. Notice the hole in a different spot than usual!

Had a perfectly good Seasonic SS-400ET power supply but the clip had broken off the 24-pin ATX connector. Bought a mini-fit jr depinning tool and replaced the connector in about 10 minutes. So easy when you have the right tool for the job 😁

Can we just talk about the NES TMNT game real quick? I was four when I got it. I was obsessed with Ninja Turtles (most kids were), and here comes this game BASED on them and all it did was break my brain And that sound of my turtle being CONSTANTLY electrocuted by seaweed is burned into my soul

My Japanese MSX2 lives!Finally I got the combination to test it. Power supply, pico flash cart. I need to try it with a crt monitor, but the output right now is a single composite cable for video, so I still have that to figure out and also a gamepad solution. @riksrandomretro.com you’re the best!

My Smurve80: a modern keyboard inspired by the IBM Model M SSK, designed by Play Keyboard & Swagkeys (sold by @novelkeys.com). It has both 2.4Ghz and Bluetooth. Mine came Cherry MX2A "Honey" (damped tactile switch with stronger tactility than "Brown"). Keycaps by Domikey ("Astronaut" cherry set).

I loved Quake when it came out, but my 486DX4/120 did not. So when Duke Nukem 3D appeared and it ran brilliantly on my 486, I was very happy indeed. Quake may have been superior technologically, but Duke 3D was the better game for multiple reasons. Can't believe both are 30 years old.

Got an old Intel desktop board. The stock intel heatsink it came with from 2012 had an unhealthy sounding bearing so I replaced it with a BRAND NEW, never used stock HSF I had in storage (since 2019 or so). Bearing was even worse. I thought these stock fans were supposed to be very reliable 🙃
