Damn. I expected quite more from Amos Fox... Mostly the rebranding stuff feels very silly and a very Army internal thing to consider. And i doubt it would help to get through the SOF Mafia and Pete Hegseth anyway. The Cult of the Operator is too strong imho.

I really enjoyed this critique of Fuller, originally published in Canadian Defence Quarterly in 1927 but re-upped in 2022. Has some good old-school zingers, but more to the point accurately critiques Fuller's muddled ideas and language. Even in his own time, he was hardly taken at his word.

Apropos of prior comments about Armored warfare, I remain supremely unimpressed by Basil Liddel-Hart, JFC Fuller, and the Reformers' work. I really do not get why people are so excited by them. I also find they are much less prominent (at least in my experience) in the UK. Which is, IMO, telling.

Patterns of Conflict is kind of a mess, but at least is interesting. Misremembered Boydisms filtered through 6 generations of the telephone game are DEFINATELY suicidal delusions.

Maneuver warfare is great! It's just not magic and paralysis is horseshit! The Reformers' maneuverist psychological paralysis was, at best, an ambitious, risky, and unmeasurable goal which a non-deferential author might call a suicidal delusion. Worse, it ossified into some real dumb ideas.

I hashed out my thoughts on this elsewhere, but broadly half of these answers are right, and I agree with most of the criticisms, but some of it is silly. So like... technically only 12 Russian SSN/SSBN are post-2000, but the lead Severodvinsk and Dolgorukiy class boats had the majority of construction post-2000.

Unironically we need like 32 Columbias. And that's assuming we can get a block II with ~20-24 tubes vs 16. Call them 32 for Liberty (since we had 41 for Freedom) and sell it to congress. Strategically critical, but the economic benefits for New London and Quonset Point make it a no brainer.
