And this wasn't the view of a solid majority even 6 years ago. Republicans made it an issue and spent hundreds of millions vilifying trans people.
I legitimately could not tell you if I chose to be trans or if I just was trans. the distinction is meaningless. the simple act of wanting to transition is the need to transition.
It's wild to me how many people do not understand this. "Luxury housing" is not some ontologically separate category from the rest of the housing market. Nor is "affordable housing." It's all one big fluid market & when you build more, everyone moves up & frees up the bottom end.
Max Dubler 🏳️🌈@maxdubler.com · 2w agoThe idea that the wealthy, the middle class, and the poor are all in completely separate housing markets with no overlap ignores how things work in the real world. In the absence of new high end housing, wealthy people outbid the middle class for the best available existing housing and renovate it.
I sort of suspect the actual preference is "I want to not think about this" and while universal/single-payer would be bad for that in the short term it would be extremely positive for it in the long term

Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.social · 2w agoYeah in general I think ‘reduced risk’ is the way to sell social democracy, which is similar to, but not identical to removing outright material deprivation. This isn’t the 1930s and most people (almost all of the electorate) have *some* form of healthcare, etc. What many don’t have is stability.

I wish I could do more to comfort and buoy trans people who are struggling with thoughts of ending it. For myself, I lived with those thoughts daily during my teens and 20s. I couldn't imagine genuinely wanting to live during that time. I got better, and I'm still not sure how.
