Enrico🐀@redbassett.com · 3d agoI'm not being facetious, this is a sincere take, but after spending many many hours over the years mulling solutions to distracted drivers, I've firmly landed on not removing the distracted part but rather the driver part. We need solutions to reduce phone use driving, but also driving.
This is wise, and hopefully his supporters and the supporters of his opponent will all model his behavior, rally together, and try to win the seat.

Something I think those of us who grew up in 90s or earlier are going to have to internalize — and will always struggle to remember — is that US voters no longer accept the fiction that politics is a contest between liberal and conservative ideas, rather than faction-based culture war by other means
I’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.

The media's takeaway from an El-Sayed win is the same as it would have been from a Stevens win, and the same as it will be if El-Sayed wins the general, or if he loses it: everyone, no matter who they are, needs to take several steps to the right.

Just so everyone knows, this is a tried-and-true mainstream media tactic. For progressives/leftist candidates, every election is a “crucial test” and any loss would serve as proof to the media that the latest left-side moment is at its end. Any win, though, just means it’s time to find a new test.
