Off to my daughter’s for the festivities so I’ll wish you all a very happy Christmas wherever you are. Thanks for the many interesting exchanges during the last year. I’ve discovered a great deal of music I was unaware of, so thanks for that. Take care and have a great break.

Now playing … 48 years old today and the last in their phenomenal 5 ⭐️ run which started with 1971’s Nursery Cryme* *cue replies informing me that I’m wrong and that it actually started with 1970’s Trespass.
Students at St Vincent created "chemistrees" and I thought if my cat went at it, broke beakers (you have to use real chemicals for a legit Chemistree) and the mixture covering Rocky would give him super powers that would eventually turn me into a pet and I don’t think that’s a good idea.
Today in 1993: Nirvana’s iconic “Unplugged” concert airs on MTV. “.. In the moment, you weren’t aware you were taping what was Nirvana's last album," producer Alex Coletti said later. "It was only in hindsight that it became what it became." #RIP
#jazzsky | The legendary Thelonious Monk's appearance at Newport Jazz Festival in 1963 when the so-called High Priest of Bop brought one of his greatest quartets featuring master Charlie Rouse on tenor sax, Butch Warren on bass and Frankie Dunlop on drums
Recently I was having car trouble. I called my mechanic. He asked “can you describe the sound it makes?” “Yah, it sounds like the screamo band I started in 2002”
One better: A woman came up to me, shaking with excitement and awe. “Are you…?” She said on the verge of tears. Really playing it up I said, “Yes…I am.” To which she shouted, “BON JOVI!?” Wait. What? Since that day I never say, “Yes I am.” I reply, “Whom do you think I am?”
This reminded me of a story Vincent Price told. He was in a plane & a man came over to him and said he had always admired him. And then said, “would you sign this, Mr. Lugosi”. Bela had been dead for like 15yrs. He signed it as Bela.
#jazzsky | Hank Mobley | Workout | This hard bop milestone released in 1962 features performances by tenor sax great Hank Mobley with a line-up that includes pianist Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers on bass, guitarist Grant Green and Philly Joe Jones on drums
Man, this opening track hits. Watched the entire series of True Blood and it never got old. Joined Bluesky yesterday and my friends are acting their old age so flying solo here. If anyone sees this and has other fav opening tunes to share, that’d be cool. Thinking of making a digital comp or sumpen
Your periodic reminder that Paul’s Boutique is a masterpiece of sampling. It’s also just fun as hell.
Gonna open a bar with live music where musicians get the first drink free. Gonna call it Horn Pub.
We have to continue to recognize that composers everywhere are pouring their souls for us to enjoy and connect with music on a deep deep level. Here, in our tvs or monitors, we’re getting living breathing music.
This is the voice of DAVID DRAIMAN from the band Disturbed. So haunting and beautiful
Fell asleep at 9.6k followers, woke up to 10.1k followers. You know what that means… *pulls air saxophone out of its dusty air case*
i love that blur wrote the woohoo song to make fun of american grunge rock and americans were like "wow this slaps" and then continued ignoring blur
I watched this live on mtv and it showed me how quickly music shifted. As much as I loved Pink Floyd, Boston, AC/DC, etc, the grunge scene catapulted music into an era of deep emotion which, I didn’t realize until then, was so badly needed.
“You’re a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical, bigot.” “So I have a few faults. Who doesn’t?” 😂
It took years for me to understand what Gary said here at the end and maybe it was for self preservation of the mere thought 😂
Hey, it's my new @therealelvira.bsky.social meets H.P. Lovecraft cover! You can find it in the current Previews catalog, and in shops on March 20th! By @davallone.bsky.social & Kewber Baal
Great Player of the Day Appreciation posts for musicians who inspire me most. Today it’s Scott Ian of Anthrax, S.O.D., Mr. Bungle, and more. He was one of the first to show me how much fun rhythm guitar can be- and how vital to a band’s sound. #musicsky #musiciansky #scottian #anthrax #metal
#NowPlaying: Pink Floyd: A Momentary Lapse Of Reason: 1987. The first post Waters studio album, there was a bit of a bunfight going on at the time over the band name, but of course that was all sorted out perfectly amicably wasn't it? 🤣🤣🤣
Turntable has been set up! First spin on the new toy.
Megadeth. “Wake Up Dead.” 1986. Sometimes you need to disassemble those PS songs down to their discrete parts to appreciate just how many riffs are packed in — and played at speed #Metalsky #Thrashsky
If I ever become a popular male blues rocker, I am going to start my performance by asking the audience if they all are ‘ready to rock,’ and later, I will exhort them to ‘come on!’ If they fail to come on to an acceptable degree, I shall raise my fist and urge them by saying, ‘let’s rock!’
