Sorry for re-sharing, but the funds raised so far already ($1,300) went toward expenses in June—but developments in the past week are 1) my cat (Zel) needed $2,500 emergency surgery, & 2) seems there’s a balance of $1,500 from a scan I had in January that’s gone to collections. gofund.me/d8ae681e1

I have just been sent the transcript of a deposition my grandmother gave in 1977 while she was serving as an expert witness in a series of tribal rights cases and let me tell you, if nothing else this is proof that I come by it honest for every conceivable value of “it”

One thing all marginalized people have in common is that under white supremacy, at any given time we are whatever beneficiaries of our status quo need us to be in order to advance their rhetoric but at no particular crucial point ever are we real actualized voice-having human beings.

It's especially galling that Haley Stevens is portraying herself as the great protector of the Jews in her campaign against a Muslim candidate, given that in 2022 she beat a wonderful Jewish Congressman in a costly primary in part by accusing him of being insufficiently pro-Israel.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 763: Having a tough time? Good. Got a rejection? Good. Got a bad review? Good. Had to abandon a project because it wasn't working? Good. These things all teach you resilience, patience and determination; the things you need most as a writer.

Furious that Chris Nolan would disregard historical accuracy in adapting The Odyssey by making a "movie" with "cameras" instead of memorizing the entire story and then going on a nationwide tour to sing it to us while tripping on ergotized barley

What’s a woman? We asked The Odyssey and you’ll never believe the answer…s! 1. Bird with a lady head 2. Shapeshifting witch 3. Baddie who came out of a bird egg 4. A whirlpool maybe 5. Tentacle monster who barks like a dog 6. More different shapeshifting witch 7. Weird horny island hermit

It cracks me up how mad people are about Eliot Page existing in a story that pretty famously contains Tiresias the Transition Enthusiast, an mpreg headburster, and a chick who hatched out of a swan’s egg. Yes hi I am Homer my gender is “lol” (Yes I said chick she’s a swan & so’s her sister. HONK.)

I can't stop listening to this. It's like my soul travels to another dimension for a moment when those harmonies hit. Pure dopamine piped through my headphones. (Tori Amos and her backup singers covering "Poison & Wine" by The Civil Wars)

Absolute nonsense. Libraries are generators of enthusiasm. I can't tell you how many customers buy books from us after having read them from the library. Librarians are also some of our best customers and wonderful people. Main reason book sales are down is that everything is fucking expensive!

You all-- I never thought I'd see the day, but library peeps, strap in for a fight. The Author's Guild is going after us as the reason why authors are making less money. I don't think they understand who they are dealing with: www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

There's a lot of buzz about YouTube filmmakers taking Hollywood by storm. The brilliant @bjcolangelo.bsky.social takes a hard look at what that buzz means, who gets to be a part of it, and who doesn't. Folks? If I've said it before, I've said it a million times: Listen to BJ Colangelo.

The Future Of Horror Filmmaking Is YouTube ... If You're A Dude - SlashFilm

With all the buzz about YouTube creators becoming successful horror filmmakers, it's time to have a difficult conversation about YouTube as a platform.
