digital artificer and security witch. PhDropout. everything for everyone. class traitor to silicon valley. anarchist. (she || they). fuck nazis, terfs, and those who defend them.

I brought a new job offer to my current boss before making any kind of decision. said "I'd like to stay, as long as I can have in writing that my performance rating won't be docked for doing things by hand first to learn them properly". apparently that was too much to ask! so they lost me.

“If ICE is instituting this program to shield officers and the agency itself from public accountability, especially when information is already publicly available, then that’s a serious concern and flies in the face of our democratic values,” EFF’s Sophia Cope told @theintercept.com.

ICE Is Paying a Controversial AI Firm to Hide the Identities of Agents

In a leaked memo, an ICE official tells employees the new AI tech will protect them. Some worry it could be used to root out whistleblowers.

Basically traps AI crawlers and sends them down an "infinite maze" of static files with no exit links, where they get stuck and thrash around for months. Once trapped, the crawlers can be fed gibberish data, aka Markov babble, which is designed to poison AI models arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

so like lemme weigh in on this as someone who is more financially comfortable than many in my generational cohort: everything I have gained seems precarious and temporary because I know the people with real money will take it all from me the second they get an opportunity and no one will protect me.

"People have stopped believing that the economy can be good, and have lost the willingness to admit that they are doing well. That pessimism might be harder to fix than an actual downturn," @annielowrey.bsky.social argues.

Notice how the papacy's good acts are all statements and the horrific ones are actual actions and policies with serious resources behind them? The Catholic Church has a massive healthcare network and inflicted a total trans care ban there last year. They're an enthusiastic part of trans genocide:

‘It’s a Nightmare’: The Human Toll of the Catholic Church’s Trans Healthcare Ban

Missing hormones. Canceled surgeries. Bureaucratic denials. Late last year the Catholic Church banned all trans healthcare across its sprawling networks. The impact on trans people's lives is devastat...

solar is so cool man. I climbed up on my shed roof last week and installed a panel to charge my yard tools and now I’m mowing my lawn with power I stole from a fucking star

"Let us die to make men free" gets the attention on here, but don't sleep on "I have read the good news of the word of God written in rows of rifles: the vengeance you mete to slavers shall be repaid by Me with grace to you, crush them beneath your heel as Christ did the devil"

"He hath loosed the lightning of His terrible swift sword," "I have read a gospel writ in burnished rows of steel: 'as ye deal with my contemners so with you My grace shall deal,' Let the Hero born of woman crush the serpent with His heel" Ie, "deal with confederates like a vengeful God"

one interesting thing so far about loudly hating AI is the way AI lovers are like "wow so you're just totally closed off to hearing another perspective??" as if their perspective hasn't been relentlessly pushed down our throats with no space to push back (particularly in professional settings)

this is what I mean when I say "don't let orgs and managers see discriminating against trans folk as the path of last resistance". transphobes are persistent and annoying. be just as annoying. show them compliance is going to be a legal nightmare

if you're cis and you are asked by your management to police bathrooms, "can you confirm in writing that you are ordering me to approach customers to discuss their sex?" is an email no manager wants to reply to

Even violence, state or otherwise, will not stop me living my life. I will not change a single thing about how I've been living for over a decade regardless of what some new garbage "guidance" might say. If they made it illegal to breathe I'd still do it. Fuck you

finding it hard to put into words just quite upsetting I find the idea of Google getting rid of the "ten blue links" format of search entirely, genuinely feels like your landlord announcing he's removing your kitchen and replacing it with a bouncy castle, I need my kitchen, let me keep my kitchen

Over 300 detainees at Delaney Hall signed an S.O.S. letter about the horrid conditions they are facing: rotten food, lack of medical attention, and so much more. Yesterday we went to inspect Delaney and that letter is correct. The solution is closing Delaney and abolishing ICE.

Whenever someone prominent accidentally shares an AI hallucination, people are like “this is why you have to double-check the output!” Which is absolutely true, but remember that AI proponents market it as a faster way to work. Which is not really true if you have to double check everything it does.
