Okay we all have criticism for the hegemonic goliath that is American culture but one thing that I love is the continued practice of treating the Muppets, including the denizens of Sesame Street, as if they are real, living entities. I dunno I think it's a charming bit of collective whimsy.

We understand sharks too much now, they're not this vital, unstoppable unknown, we have billions of hours of documentaries about them. GPS makes a mockery of the distant loneliness the film stands on. You could do it shot for shot line for line and ... it wouldn't be what it was.

Fortunately, through cross-party and international cooperation between and within governments, we have been able to ensure this will never happen again.

Early COVID mitigations showed us the power of collective action. The environment began to heal. People with disabilities were accommodated. An entire flu strain was eradicated. Folks reconnected with their local communities. We worked together & saved lives.

Honestly this feels like a failure of imagination. Why can't you make the story more interesting with an awesome feat of diplomatic genius? Why can't a climactic fight scene hinge on a disastrous slip at a crucial moment, played for drama or slapstick depending on the tone of the scene?

Fumbles are great in non-combat situations, like a key diplomatic encounter or shooting an apple off the lord's son's head. Criticals are very meh here. Criticals are awesome in combat encounters, performing feats of awesomeness and speeding up the action. Fumbles are tedious here. #ttrpg #ttrpgs

I miss when cable TV had absolutely no money and tons of airtime to fill so they'd be like fuck it what about a guy and a puppet make fun of movies? what if we just take all this old cartoon shit we have and make a talk show?

I wonder if the backlash against pandemic measures and our current reduced pandemic readiness is a reaction to the fact that what little we did do *worked*. Making it a social demand to care about others, investing in science for public health, and just *giving people money to survive* is effective.

We are doing very little for Long Covid, for trauma. We are also AFAIK possibly even less prepared for a pandemic now than we were in 2020.
