The Car is a simple, convenient and concrete example of individualism, which is absolutely key to conservative and far right support. The majority of their views will fail if they cannot get people to think they are better/owed more than others.
@lastpositivist.bsky.social · 2d agoIdentity politics for drivers is an odd feature of right wing politics one sometimes seen, but I do think based on what I see here and ban on Twitter that it clearly does have some emotional appeal. I guess identity politics for gamers worked so why not cars?

What happened in 2020 (profit share down, wage share up) goes a long way towards explaining why so many tech VCs have become openly hostile to democracy. They saw a little glimpse of workers getting more power and they *hated* it.

The Current on CBC radio spending the opening segment talking to US traders worker representatives and just letting them blame Carney for the trade deal collapse with very little push back.
This program was flawed from the start, in large part due to it coming at the same time university budgets are being destroyed by the provinces. We'd have no problem attracting int'l talent - and building domestic talent - if we maintained adequate institutional funding.

Today's tomato: Heirloom Green tomato (real name unknown) Yes, it's ripe. On the sweeter side and great in salads. One of my newer favourites. Picked it up at a farmer's market and went from there. Gave some to my dad and they infuriated him because "how do you know when a green tomato is ripe?!"

Perfect snacker. I plant extra because I want a whole bowl I can go full Denathor on. General favourite among people I give tomato plants to.

Cook@meganlcook.bsky.social · 4d agoI saw Annie many times as a kid and RHPS unsurprisingly was in heavy rotation during my teenage years, but the first time I remember seeing Curry onscreen and wondering "who is THAT?" was as Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers. The man could work a cape like nobody's business.
there are going to be many remembrances of Tim Curry today for his brilliant work in Rocky Horror and Clue and so much more, but to me this ridiculous bit from Red Alert sums up everything that made him great you never knew what you were going to get with him, but whatever it was would be brilliant
