One lesson is that the opposition was not scattered or weak. The core of the opposition was a unified UEFA -- the largest and most powerful federation. Lesson applied: imagine if the presidents of the wealthiest private universities and state flagships worked *together* against the Trump assault.
This is an important story, beyond the world of sports. There were BIG MONEY interests at stake here. But *organized opposition* to a cartoonishly corrupt sell-off torpedoed the plan. Almost immediately. There is a lesson here.

Mamdani won 65% of the vote of young men between the ages of 18 and 29. (circle.tufts.edu/latest-resea...) It's grimly fascinating (and revealing, and unsurprising) how his own party doesn't use him as more of an example of how to reach young male voters.

They often break the law, but crucially, when it comes to things like jailing people unlawfully, they are absolutely releasing people when ordered to by a judge, and while they've slow-walked or engaged in malicious compliance in many lawsuits, habeas corpus is still working as judicial enforcement.
Well if we know anything about this administration they always follow the law
What worries me most about the situation of trans healthcare as a trans person is different from what worries me most about the sitution of trans healthcare as a science journalist.
There were decades of rate setting policy made under the assumption that slowly encouraging efficiency in residential and industrial sectors could keep prices down by easing capital expenditure on peaking plants, everyone went along with it to be rewarded with data centers swallowing that capacity.

Kircher@kevinjkircher.com · 4w agoThis is wild. 93% of the renewable electricity generation added to the Irish grid over that last decade now powers data centers, rather than reducing fossil fuel use. Data centers have pretty much annihilated the health and climate benefits those renewables could have provided.
there's (rightfully) been a lot of attention paid to la, chicago, minneapolis, and dc, but the the joint federal-local task force in memphis is uniquely horrifying in ways not seen in other cities. this is at least the fourth person shot during the task force's monthslong occupation.
