I have never seen coverage of a live trial, one involving allegations of multiple sex attacks on multiple women, framed in a more distasteful way. It's not 'Fame under fire' it's a rape trial. And it involves actual women. And this from the *checks notes* BBC

BBC screengrab from within their Russell Brand trial coverage. Image of Brand in 70s-style aviator glasses, with earpods in, blank expression. Long dark wavy hair, black and grey beard, dark unbuttoned shirt. All on a fire red/orange and black background
BBC logo top and centre, underneath a subdeck reading: Fame Under Fire. Then the headline 'Russell Brand On Trial'.
The words 'fire'and 'trial' are coloured to look like they are glowing orange at the bottom

OMG I had to check my work emails regarding an extra case in court tomorrow and I've just read this from an HR person. "on a knee to nose basis" A KNEE TO NOSE BASIS 😳

The term British originated in the concept of empire (initially with the subjection of Ireland). It survived both in the fiction of the British Commonwealth and the postwar "British Subject" (as distinct from the Citizen of the UK). It has long functioned as a way of avoiding ethnonationalism.

Aside from everything else, all this "non-whites can be British but not English" stuff is very obviously just...moving words around? It only sounds like a distinction because "English" just happens to have the more nebulous word "British" nearby, but both are very obviously racially neutral terms??

Jim fucking White calling Czechia Cechnya all fucking morning. Now we move on to Simon Jordan's take on whether Britain is being colonised by immigrants. Fuck all the way off, talksport.

Here, right. I live in a flat in a big, edwardian, redbrick building. It's 3 flights of stairs to get out, 2 to pass the ground floor bar that shares the staircase to get to their cellar. You can't see who's coming up or down the stairs, each flight is its own space...

I've listened to a good few hundred episodes of In Our Time, and I can tell you this: if there's an American contributor, they'll be a complete douchebag and you can tell nobody else there likes or respects them that much.

BBC News - "The Smith's Johnny Marr's guitars sell for almost £4m at auction...100% of the hammer price of 31 lots... donated to two charities: The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and The National Autistic Society" What a top fella. Achieving national treasure status (if he wasn't already)

The Smith's Johnny Marr's guitars sell for almost £4m at auction

One instrument was used on the The Smiths' debut album and also appeared on the cover of Oasis's debut single.
