Somehow they keep finding new ways to fuck shit up. Truly amazing.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman on rockets crashing into the moon: "It's not a big deal right now. The moon has clearly seen better days."
Someone said a genz viewer described 90s movies like Fight Club and Clerks as a whole genre of "white men upset that they have jobs" ... and that tracks, for the era. 😆
I would notice no difference except I wouldn’t have to look at every goddamn image like a forensic expert to see if it's fake. I use AI for zero things. It's like asking what if crypto vanished, I wouldn't be effected at all.
Who would I get to wrongly tell me the date my own movie came out??
Medicine. Medicine has grown by leaps and bounds. You cannot introduce vaccines that crater cancer rates, cure AIDS, and cure sickle cell, and then tell me things have only gotten worse. Also: Food. To a HUGE degree. I eat what I once considered rare treats every day, now.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

Corporations, Not Immigrants, Are Responsible for Vast Majority of Healthcare Fraud, OIG Report Shows
Trump officials are focused on immigrants, but the Department of Health and Human Services report on healthcare fraud doesn’t even mention them.

amazing how so few of the gazillion think pieces criticizing women for not dating straight men fail to mention the whole “many of them literally don’t wash their asses” thing:
I remember a coworker in her late twenties saying this on how dating was so difficult. I was not surprised by her first two complaints: general anger issues and having few outside hobbies. I WAS surprised at her mention of how many men apparently don’t wash their hair or butts.
When you see animation superfans/historians offhandedly referring to "Betty Boop's Black grandmother," folks, this is who they're talking about.

"saudi arabia owns EA" is going to be the headline you see basically everywhere for this one but "jared kushner is about to use EA as a vehicle for trump administration bribes" is equally relevant imo

HAPPY 3 YEARS BG3!!! A conversation with a dear friend brought up the topic of early fandom days and "firsts", so I invite you all to share your BALDUR'S GATE 3 FIRSTS! The story of your first all-nighter playing, the first fic read, the first art of your OC - anything you like is welcome! 🩷
That traumatized tf out of me as an adult!
The only book I ever read in school that haunts me to this day is Night by Elie Wiesel. It's about the Holocaust, written by a child survivor. I was horrified that anyone could be so evil. I still think everyone should read it...but maybe not in 7th grade.
Everyone keeps trying to appease the nazis by being more like the nazis and all that happens is you get more nazis if only there were some sort of historical precedent for understanding this process
I swear to God, part of the problem of literacy is that we make kids read SO MANY books like this. Of course they’re going to associate reading with misery! We put them in a Skinner box and shock them when they read, what did people THINK would happen?
Having ranted about school curriculum books, I’ve just seen my son’s summer reading list, and all I can say is “I was right”. A more depressing collection would be tricky to assemble. Are we actively trying to convey to kids the idea that reading is dismal and arduous?
Barker: i'm a whizz at curing depression King: i kinda doubt that but i'm willing to be wrong Barker: remember when i helped Thomas get over his depression? [earlier] Thomas Ligotti: my brain doesn't make enough serotonin Barker: have you tried making more serotonin?
He serves in the branch that the Constitution specifically charges with the duty of removing the President for criming.
Cornyn: "There's nothing we could do to rein in the president"
The greatest innovations can come about just from giving a **** about other people for once.
When your brain starts to associate a task or a place or activity with trauma, it just does what it's been designed to do and tries to *stop you from doing that.* We talk about burnout sometimes like it's a moral failure, but it's literally a deep survival mechanism.
This is super cool bc: 1) Many of the highest-risk conditions, like ME/CFS & Long Covid, aren't on the list 2) The best way to protect the vulnerable is to protect the population so others don't infect them 3) None of this accounts for Novavax which is not mRNA www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...

Only people 65 and over or with underlying health conditions should get the shots, the advisory group recommended. There may be insurance roadblocks for others.

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
yknow what would be cute? some kind of thing where we swap notebooks we only kind of used a little periodically, so you end up making all these little exquisite corpse books out of many people's "write it and forget about it" kind of notes without accruing stacks of notebooks you only used twice
*stares at my collection of mostly unused cute notebooks* 😭
Think of the access Larry Nassar had to young girls for years, under cover of medical care, before you really decide it’s SO important to make sure a trans child doesn’t play games with no stakes alongside your own.
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

"Why can't you just appreciate how revolutionary the job-taking, environment-degrading, information-shredding, technology-hoarding, economy-swamping machine is?" My brother in Christ, there may indeed be a revolution in part because of "AI," but it might not be the one you wanted.
