Here's what I don't understand about giving Iran a formal, recognized right to control traffic into and out of Hormuz: doesn't this essentially give them an "off" button for the economies of the Gulf states, which are generally its enemies? How could they EVER accept this?
Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social · 2h agoIran and Oman have reportedly agreed that all ships transiting Hormuz have to go through an Iran-controlled corridor, and are finalizing tolls of 3, 5, or 7%. This would close off the path outside Iranian waters the US encouraged ships to use during the MOU, then started bombing again to keep open.

To be fair, the CBC vs Sanders fight started in the 1990s when he lied to them about not supporting drug sentencing minimums to get their support and then betrayed them by doing just that. That and his repeated attempts to deny Black families access to federal Healthcare by attacking SCHIP...

this is legitimately a huge problem that i don’t know how they will resolve, either from an executive or legislative standpoint, and it’s going to be the case across a lot more than just defense

Higher corporate taxes to pay for military readiness would be the sound policy but we’ve elected a lot of people who believe our military is too well funded. And the right for some reason gets to be portrayed by the chattering class as the party of peace.
