Our new publication in Nature Cell Biology 🔬 How cells reseal damaged lysosomes: Ca²⁺ leak → VPS34 makes PI3P on the ER → recruits DFCP1 → clusters VPS13C lipid-transfer bridges at ER–lysosome contacts to patch the membrane. No DFCP1 = failed repair. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

DFCP1-containing ER microdomains mediate lysosomal membrane repair - Nature Cell Biology

Radulovic et al. show that phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PI3P), produced by the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase PIK3C3, is formed on ER domains after lysosome damage. ER domain PI3P helps to recruit...

Very happy to see this #MechanoGolgi story out (and in full open access, thanks to @upf.edu). Thanks a lot to everyone who contributed and helped make this possible, and, hopefully, more to come! rupress.org/jcb/article/...

Mechanical forces stimulate Golgi export

Bhaskar Naidu and Vera Lillo et al. show that extracellular mechanical forces reciprocally regulate Golgi function. By linking cell adhesion and spreading,

🧵 I've been meaning to write a #Skytorial on our recently posted prepring in which we show evidence that the Golgi 🥞 is a mechanoresponsive organelle. Extracellular mechanical forces also tune Golgi export capacity! 👉 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Out now in @annualreviews.bsky.social: my review on the origins of eukaryotic membrane traffic! I propose that archaea-derived proteins supported a primordial system of tubules to ferry cargo between compartments. Modern coated vesicles may have been a later innovation. doi.org/10.1146/annu...

A Tubules-First Model for the Origin of Eukaryotic Membrane Traffic

The discovery of membrane trafficking proteins in Asgard archaea—the closest archaeal relatives of eukaryotes—reveals the deep evolutionary roots of the eukaryotic endomembrane system. This review syn...

A new set of very cool results in support of cisternal maturation of the Golgi apparatus. It is very intriguing that the debate is ongoing with new approaches.

An important piece of my postdoctoral work now out. My first entry into the early secretory pathway regulation had many interesting surprises. Thanks for the collaboration @ishier.bsky.social. The deflects in collagen secretion really elevated the paper.

Is the ERGIC a stable organelle? How are its identity and diverse roles maintained? @anupap.bsky.social (Bogan lab, Yale) shows TUG maintains ERGIC integrity, shaping cargo flux and functions like collagen secretion and autophagy—a cargo-selective brake via ERGIC organisation. rdcu.be/euig6

Farewell America. I am leaving with many new deep connections and bonds. I couldn't be more content and thrilled about my postdoctoral work especially with positive news about a manuscript in the last few days. Hopefully a new chapter in my life will begin soon. Now back to applications 😀.
