"Can we do this with AI?" is something I've heard a few times, without the person understanding either "this" or "AI".
I don't think anyone should get to "oops, maybe I got carried away" to avoid taking responsibility for all the damage DOGE did.

Everyone yammering about how "taste" is going to be the thing that makes designers valuable in a future where everyone can chat an artifact into being is coming from a place of still misinterpreting Apple and not understanding anything under the surface.
The best edit I’ve seen in weeks, you absolutely have to turn the sound on for this one.
I think we ended up in a place where kids were taught for several generations that the Warren Court was the sort of permanent emanence of the court's ideal function after we finally fixed those legal equality problems, and not like a specific politically-caused aberration in one historical moment

If you think this ends well for country, I believe you're sadly mistaken. Extremism on one side simply fuels opposite growth on other side. We need moderates.
"AI is the logical endpoint of participatory culture" is a wild thing to claim (and believe?) I can't even imagine believing "Barely participating is the logical endpoint of participatory culture" Like sure, buddy. It's because everyone in the world is as anti-social as you are.
Never forget: Alan Greenspan chaired a 1983 Social Security commission that raised payroll taxes for working people. Then in 2001 he told Congress that we needed to lower taxes on the wealthy because we were in danger of paying off the deficit too fast. His legacy is regressive taxation.

"Measure twice, cut once" goes beyond its meaning for carpentry. It applies to other fields as welll. Write good requirements. Test-driven develpment. A good start is half the work. It also means that once you start cutting, you're almost there really. And I think that's really nice to know.
Yes. There's a myth that we use the words 'racist' and 'fascist' too much, thus rendering them meaningless. That's a lie told and spread by the racists and fascists. Truth is, we don't use them enough. We give the racists and fascists the endless benefit of a nonexistent doubt, and thus permission.
Mark Harris@markharris.bsky.social · 4mo agoThis is not a "controversy" or a "dispute" about casting. It's a racist position being echoed and amplified by other racists. Journalists need to learn to use the word "racist" much more freely; right now, too many publications treat it as unprovable unless self-reported.
My daughter's pithy summation: "Covid reminded people they lived in a society; and they hated it."
They're really trying to speed run going back to Jim Crow.

The death of curiosity, and thus humanity's future, is born in the belief that scatter shot math or science advances us at a civilization wide level. Instead each [wholly] artificially solved question is a closed door to the wider universe, because we have no care for the search itself.
And, as evidenced by aggrandizing models elsewhere in the industry, at some point the system begins to intrude on the real world in ways that require we question it. So much of the database is our mythology, at some point the system will output myth as reality and we must instantly question that.
