I feel like you can make the same argument for cloud providers. It’s risky to rely on tech corps for anything. It would probably be better if anyone under 30 knew how to set up servers on-prem.

The “best” thing about genAI (the quotes are doing heavy work here) is that it’s really lowered the bar on getting into hand-made art. Literally anything you make is better than ai. There’s never been a better time to throw away your fear and start learning that craft you’ve always wanted to learn.
I love boomer shooters as an ideological thoughtform where basically evil exists, literal supernatural from hell evil exists, but it CAN be stopped specifically by just shooting the fuck out of it, just one guy (or gal) whose mad enough and has enough guns CAN just kill the shit out of evil

one of the weirdest things about working on games is how quickly something can turn from "this feels awful and unplayable" to "this feels great and polished" in the span of like a week with highly targeted adjustments and no major redos at all
This is pretty clever, and a great looking effect. I would have assumed something like this was done somewhere much lower down, at a shader or post processing layer, but this is cheap and easy.

If you're a game developer... STOP what you're doing right now, and double-check your default *framerate limiting option*. Make sure you set your default to something like 60fps - NOT unlimited. Unlimited by default means on laptops your game will appear to perform well, then tank after 20 min.
