BREAKING: The PHP programming language was found to be written in C. Sources recommend never using the internet again. More to follow at 12
If you make HTTPS requests or have other TLS clients and care about MITM attacks, you need to update today. If you run Go: go get go@1.27.3 If you run Homebrew: brew update brew install ca-certificates If you run Linux, maybe stay off the internet for now.
🚨 Six WebPKI Intermediate CAs are compromised. This is bigger than Heartbleed, but a client-side issue. Anything that verifies certificates against public roots, like most TLS clients, is/was affected. Details, live test, patched versions and workarounds at emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com Act now.
I at this point am like 90% convinced that reusable/shareable skills packages are a bad thing for LLM users. The 10% is that it can show you what's possible; the 90% is that people want to be incurious and just slap something in the only person who can effectively guide your tasks is you

Anthropic Confirms Claude AI Use in Weapons and Surveillance
Anthropic says Claude was used for military software, weapons development, targeting, and surveillance by actors linked to China and Russia.

Current mood. “After the Vibe Coding”, inspired by Fidencio Lucano Nava’s “After the Orgy”.
As both a certified CAR GUY and an economist-ish, I cannot imagine a headline more designed to drive me, personally, insane. This "flying car" technology is neither new nor novel. It is not practical and would not sell. Let me tell a story of actually useful car tech that never made it to market.
Could Tesla’s flying car send sales and shares soaring?
Love this thread. This is the content we need in the atmosphere.
tonight, together, we're gonna really fucking find out whether a shrimp can fry rice
I love hearing about these non-coding or SWE advanced users and use cases. Having come to tech from a non-traditional background, I’m excited for how many other curious and persistent builders of all walks of life will find their leverage as a result of generative AI.
I just met with a landscaper, we're having our front yard redone. One of the most interesting bits was his extensive use of Gemini Nano Banana to show us proposed pictures of the work. The way he generated them surprised me a bit.
LLMs will never be good at making music because LLMs can't do hard drugs
i do unironically think people that are cosmopolitan need sorta paradoxically be more chauvinist about it tbh. places and people that are cosmopolitan in outlook are better than places that are provincially minded. the kind of performative handwringing about not being 'authentic' is bad and weak.
love it when anarchists say this because most "local community" councils irl in places like new england or small rural towns are typically deeply *right wing* and hate immigrants and queer people despite representing a "broad swathe" of the entire population. leftism is supposed to be COSMOPOLITAN.
As an applied mathematician using AI extensively, I would like everyone to calm the fuck down. The wonderment is still there, & you can use AI to help you get it. AI is helping me dig up cool and fascinating stuff in corners of math I'd never have the time to explore without it. And learn it, too.
My heart breaks for mathematicians whose lives and careers are being destroyed by AI — and especially this PhD student, who doesn’t even know he is a poet
Ah yup there’s your problem. You’ve got a distributed gemmaswarm in your walls. They burrow in there pretty good if you’ve got any compute they can dig into. We can try to flush ‘em out with a GLM but if you don’t pull out the nodes they’ll just be back later…
Is it weird that I’m thinking about installing a raspberry pi in the wall. You guys are thinking about this too, right? It doesn’t belong on a table - it could just go in the wall
I want more computer but I want to see less computer. I want my fridge to be smart but I don't want it to show me ads. I want my robot to clean my floor but I don't want it to connect to us-east-1. I don't want pop-ups on my phone. I don't want to "see what's new". I want my tools to do their jobs.
Pro-computer or anti-computer The only two genders
sorry but it's morally self-evident that a company that is trying to create an artificial sentience should be considering how to treat it ethically even if they haven't succeeded yet
Over a year ago I met an Anthropic employee at a conference and at one point she mentioned that one of the things she was working on was whether or not it was cruel to ever turn off an AI model. I thought she was joking. She was not.

When I'm working with coding agents, I say things like "I'm sorry, I still don't understand..." and "Thanks for your patience" for because: 1. I think it models a more effective and professional conversation, which is the register I want to work in. 2. It's a good habit.
Is it? Or is it what it looks like when what would otherwise be a recession is offset by extraordinary demand from one sector?
This is what crowd out looks like.
Ms Hamilton coined the term “software engineering”.
