I was reading an author recently talking about how we don't appreciate the way that email isn't siloed. That is, you don't have to be in gmail to talk to someone else in gmail. The norm is so powerful, it'd be unthinkable to change it. All email is interoperable. Social media could've been this way.

The mastodon server I joined in 2022 is shutting down permanently. > Please note that Mastodon can move your followers, but it can’t transfer your old posts or uploaded media to your new account. If you want to keep a copy, download an archive. Yeah totally similar to atproto 🙄

turns out the way to keep all the atproto nerds (complimentary) occupied is to just give us all a little messageboard to play around with, doesn't take much

Foregrounding this question is an obviously a good thing—and something probably still largely absent from everyday consumer consciousness. Makes me optimistic that one byproduct of ATProto’s open architecture adoption might be a rise in digital literacy amongst the public at large. A dude can hope 🙏

Had a fun time at the Dublin (Ohio) Irish Festival last weekend. Seeing an Irish wolfhound in person was unreal! It was also nice volunteering for something non-political. Although... Quite a few people were asking about their chances for getting Irish citizenship bc they wanna leave the US 😭 Mood.

The AI community is SLEEPING on atproto's potential. With all the "on-tap intelligence" we have these days you'd think they'd be faster to figure that out

HURRAY! A well-written, delightfully illustrated, NON-TECHIE explainer of the Atmosphere. This is *exactly* the kind of explainer that will be easy for me to share with my non-tech friends and work colleagues. THANK YOU, @leaflet.pub!

Bluesky and Leaflet are in the Atmosphere!!! ...wtf does does that mean? Here's a little explainer, written for everyone. No tech experience or prior knowledge required. All you need is 4 minutes or less :D

This is why @atproto.science is so relevant rn This compilation of essays indicates that scientists are most frustrated by insufficient “community tools and resources... Essential infrastructure for sharing, maintaining and building on existing work and data is also badly underdeveloped." >

What Scientists Said: Results from Astera's First Essay Competition

Astera recently hosted its first essay competition, focused around metascience.

Said something interesting to a friend today when they asked about different open social web protocols. It might be a little bit controversial, but: I think that ActivityPub is decentralized in principle, whereas AT Protocol is decentralized in practice. 🧵

Would love for @bsky.app to adopt a feature like this, where people can optionally add a section to their profiles that allows users to see their publications and subscriptions. Also the ability to add a newsletter subscription button in bio - similar to how @standard.site blogs show up in posts.

We just added a feature that makes it easier than ever to find your friends and their blogs! Head over to Discover, and you'll see a new bit of UI where you can browse all of the publications from the people you follow on Bluesky.
