So much ink spilled over Trump saying 20% Hormuz toll, even calculating out hypothetical effects. It’s just the president losing a war he started, feeling embarrassed, having no idea what to do, going “They’re doing what? Yeah, well, I’ll do that bigger!” Not policy, not strategy, throwing a fit.
I’m old enough to remember when this kind of thing would end a presidency.
REMINDER: The answer to “do ships sail?” is based on shipping companies going “will this be profitable given current risks and insurance cost?” and insurance companies going “will underwriting this be profitable given the risks?,” not the US president telling them to sail, even if he does so loudly.
As for the political message, it's a simple one. Trump started a war really no one wanted or supported, cost the American people hundreds of billions of dollars and then managed to completely fuck it up. Stupidity, incompetence, failure: rinse and repeat (like Trump does).
How could Vance possibly know this? What absurd toadyism.

One thing that should be very clear now, is that every one of Trump's claims in the last two months that an agreement with Iran was close, imminent, just around the corner, and that Iran had been militarily defeated and desperate for a deal....was made up. All were lies, every one.
It's wild that the media isn't 24/7 in on the entirely self-inflicted nature of this. It's not even like Trump is following some long held Republican orthodoxy. It's because he did insane shit that no one wanted.
