suppose you had a brother, do you think he would like kugel?

Ukraine’s Independence Day is a reminder of something the Kremlin has spent years trying to deny:  Ukraine is a sovereign country. Its future belongs to Ukrainians. Its alliances, identity and political choices are not Moscow’s to decide.  Happy Independence Day, Ukraine 🇺🇦

I’m glad that, even if only in the example of Fedorov for now, new political stars are emerging in Ukraine, and that they are building their standing on a genuine track record of achievements for the country during the war.

just to be clear, what I think is happening here is that (white) Americans dislike the fixed point unmanned cameras because they can no longer talk their way out of a ticket, and I think they need to get over it for the sake of non white Americans

Cambridge University should have known better, Fleet Street should have known better, the people hungrily absorbing every bit of news about it, making newsrooms feel like they had to keep going with it as a story, should have known better, horrible horrible horrible

All the Fauci stuff is a modern day version of the POW/MIA stuff after Vietnam - a way to try to rewrite the history of a huge failure of conservative ideology to be instead a story about how liberals and foreigners stabbed us in the back.

Increasingly think we need a ‘modernity is actually good’ political tendency. the right is putatively pro-industry and economic growth but thinks science is gay and wants to throw out vaccines for essential oils, the left putatively believes science but also embraces crank degrowth NIMBYism

Straightforwardly, we should reallocate a lot of money away from rural and exurban subsidies and towards cities, because the status quo has prosperous, tolerant places heavily subsidizing places that hate and oppress them. I think we should stop doing that.

Hi, as someone who grew up in a rural area and realistically can never return, I am fine with conditioning farm aid/highway and infra money/Medicare and Medicaid/etc on rural deNazification efforts.

my most authoritarian belief is probably that I'm basically fine with passive automated surveillance in public spaces especially wrt to cars. I think the backlash to speed cameras and automated license plate readers is mostly stupid given the clear public safety benefits.

There are real (though in my opinion overrated) differences and divergences between J-Street and AIPAC, but uh, there are basically none between AIPAC and DMFI, which is AIPAC but for Dems.

I had the privilege of working with Senator Dracula on my bill offering tax cuts to family-owned mortuaries. While we disagreed on much and his horrible embrace has left me unable to endure sunlight, I'll always remember his amusing little jokes about exsanguinating my staff.
