Counterpoint: things were better on all counts 1995-2015. Things are getting worse again - sliding back to levels of 40/50 years ago. Footnote: so many of the comments on this topic are not reflective of relative poverty and are reflective of white privilege.

an unfathomable amount of stuff has got better over the last 40 years - hell, even over the *last 15* - and anyone convinced it hasn't does not remember or know what things were like 15 or 40 years ago.

What I love about Bluesky is what I loved about old Twitter: if I want to find out about something (however recondite) there will be someone here (often with a PhD in it) and the time and patience to share their knowledge. /1

I take extraordinary delight in being corrected by Proper Experts. It's brilliant. They drop in like niche paratroopers. I once confused a plot point between Under the Net and Accidental Man and the Iris Murdoch fanclub magically appeared to correct me.

Some people I know are friends with a Times journo who left one of our shared whatsapp groups when someone posted that Liddle died and a number of people gave a thumbs up.

I remember this, it’s John Kay, who drowned his wife then drove head-on into a bridge to plead ‘diminished capacity’. The Sun kept a position open for him while he was committed, then in their obit called him ‘the greatest journalist of his generation’ and ‘everybody's mate’

I remember one time when some journo cunt died (who had literally killed his fucking wife) and all the other journo cunts on twitter started eulogising him like he was a great and lovely man, even when it was pointed out he had killed his wife. Now to check the reaction to Rod Liddle dying

If they have Belfast Hilton money, its disgusting to have been trying to use resources of a local community festival to platform their bullshit. Nothing says working class grassroots feminism like 4 star hotels. Was the Grand fully booked then? lol

Its pure private equity coding: encourage an influx of X nazibots, create controversy, get a peak in engagement, feed some hype, share price spikes, investors cash out, platform goes to shit. Everyone's happy. And when i say Everyone I mean no one, apart from the investors

In the night between 3rd and 4th August 1974, crowded express train 1486 'Italicus' is travelling from Rome to Munich. At 0.45 it leaves Santa Maria Novella Station in Florence heading for its next scheduled stop in Bologna. It will never arrive [Thread] >> 1
