The EHRC code of practice comes in today, bringing in to the UK the most draconian regime for single sex spaces targeting trans people for a liberal democracy in the industrialised, under what is our nominally left of centre governing party.

"The Equality Act always discriminated against trans people, we just read it wrong for fifteen years" is right up there with the standards of jurisprudence we're coming to expect from the Anglosphere these days.
If there are three things that trans people need to remember if they’re using toilets in pubs, restaurants etc., it is these:
As a human rights law academic, I'm ashamed of this country today and I'm ashamed of our supposed equality commission.

“Protect users from discrimination and harassment” is doing a whole lot of heavy lifting for a code that is explicitly designed to target, harass, and enable discrimination against trans people, who should be protected by the Equality Act 2010

It remains illegal to discriminate against trans people or anyone you think might be trans. Inter alia, we retain the human rights to privacy.
wild way to frame one of the most aggressively anti-trans bathroom bans in the developed world

There a million things wrong with the EHRC guidance, as you all know, but for me the weirdest thing about it all is that its authors don't even seem to be aware of the possibility that someone asked to leave a "single sex" facility might refuse.
🚨We have written to all MP's expressing our anger at the government. Our rights WILL be restored. Our voices WILL be heard. We will continue to fight 🏳️⚧️✊
The government’s transphobic code of practice is now up and running. But we’re not going to stand still and take it, we're supporting a legal challenge led by a trans person and a trans inclusive organisation. But we can only do this together. Will you join us?👇 goodlaw.social/ldco
Pubic Service Announcement The Vagina Museum is trans inclusive. Always has been, always will be. Today the new EHRC Code of Practice comes into effect. Let us be clear, the guidance changes nothing about how we operate.
We will not comply with the EHRC 'guidance', and neither should you. Take action for trans liberation.
🚨 BREAKING We are supporting a legal challenge to the Code of Practice. And we need your help. Join us in fighting back 👇

So this is just a call to violence, right? Just because Falkner is appealing to prosecco stormfront doesn't make this any less of a 'guess someone's going to have to take matters into their own hands 👀🤐' comment.
I just have a piss & wash my hands and leave
The equality act has always been described as a shield not a sword. What a fitting headline for those responsible for changing that
Britain, where the national equality body is a boobyhatch jam-packed with wingnut cranks who fervently believe their job is creating weapons for police to hammer minorities that the press hates and wants to harm.
Silly me, I thought the EHRC was there to defend Human Rights, not enforce removal of rights using threats
If you're trans in the UK today, it's super important to understand this: DO NOT COMPLY. The EHRC 'guidance' isn't legally binding, not even a little bit. You do not have to comply and you should not. Make your presence in 'single-sex' spaces louder, show them they have no control over us.
I’m glad that the @goodlawproject.org is launching a legal challenge against the EHRC’s new Code of Practice, which is dangerous, unworkable and has been opposed by a quarter of all MPs. The Code will discriminate against trans people and subject many others to gender policing based on stereotypes.
Pro-trans groups challenge EHRC guidance on single-sex spaces as rules come into force
Good Law Project’s trans rights lead, Jess O’Thomson, criticised the government’s approach, calling the code of practice “transphobic”.

In 2011, the UK government response to antitrans provocations was "Don't be so bloody stupid".
web.archive.org/web/20260108... Here's an archive link of the original business guidance in case the original goes missing. In pretty clear terms the original guidance used to say stuff like "obviously, so long as the changing rooms allow privacy, trans women should be permitted to use the womens"
Oh no! Poor “women”, (by which the Times means “transphobes”) totally on their own! And against one of the poorest, most marginalized & disempowered minorities in the country, with only the help of the entire mainstream media & £ millions in donations from wealthy fascists and billionaires!
BREAKING: The UK equalities watchdog’s 'transphobic' code of practice is set to face a legal challenge, it has been announced A pre-action letter sent to the EHRC and the UK Government says the guidance is being challenged for 'unlawful misstatements of the law'

this just shows people like it formulaic, like well-known tropes this knowledge is humbling, terrifying and sobering: it explains so much about current affairs of the world... these few people, would destroy world, because they think, rich are on their side, and not that, they too became enemy...
FFS! A bunch of clever algorithms, with access to the works of the World's best (& worst!) writers, should be able to cobble together something pretty reasonable. But, AI is just regurgitating. In the end, it is just high speed mediocrity. No thank you.
“We may need to make room for AI-generated novels, and for AI/human co-written novels” is this a PR piece for AI?
Higher taxes for people who use ai for things they could do themselves using their brain.
'Why can't I opt out?' and 'How can I opt out?' are the two questions I ask a lot when I'm online. Personal choice doesn't seem to be factored into my interactions with tech anymore. You're here so you must want AI, why wouldn't you? That seems to be the starting position.
I don’t think it’s too far fetched to say that it’s the difference between someone who goes to karate classes for three years throwing down against someone who’s a black belt in Streetfighter.
