How? By calling “daddy” and reminding him that he has promises to keep.

Former policy wonk. Enraged Canadian.
Abdul El-Sayed’s win represents a big blow to the politics of bygone days. Because if one campaign can show that *that* much money and *that* much old guard support doesn’t guarantee victory, it cracks open what can be imagined. It widens the aperture of what’s possible.
Will This Be AIPAC’s Biggest Defeat – Ever?
Prem was on hand in Michigan to witness the nail-biter between Abdul El-Sayed and Haley Stevens, which appears to have gone down as an astonishing failure for AIPAC.

More of this, please. You cannot answer the “how many states question” without first developing a plan to secure Palestinian rights and sovereignty. It does not matter where the border is drawn if Palestine/Palestinians are defenseless.
El-Sayed: "I believe in equal rights to peace, dignity, and self-determination, for Palestinians and Jewish Israelis alike... If that’s 2 states, I’m for it. If it’s 1 state, I’m for that. If it’s this 'land for all' model, ... or whatever they decide." www.newyorker.com/news/the-new...
Swimming is great, I’m glad Jacques Cousteau invented it.
i’m never gonna be able to fire a cruise missile yet the question of using my tax dollars for them has never been up for debate
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
I did a semester in journalism school a couple decades ago. On the first day the program head’s opening remarks to us were “Welcome! There’s no money, few jobs, and at least a third of you will wind up working in PR.”
There are 7 PR people for every journalist in the US. www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...
“Conservative” politics in America have simply become a competition for who can say the most outrageous and provocative shit, while successfully baiting more famous people into beefing with you publicly. It’s almost as if this is the logical outcome of nominating a Reality TV star for president.
The tech AI mission is to literally complete the transformation of people into economic subjects. Nothing except flesh connectors serving to move capital from space to space. And that’s only as long as there isn’t a substitute for bodies.
One of the most important issues of our time is that the future of humanity is presently being authored by people who have nothing but total contempt for humanity and seek the erasure of everything that gives being a human meaning. It’s not just annoying. It doesn’t just suck. It’s existential.
So the USA is going to institute a land blockade against Iran? I am personally so excited to see US ground forces go back into Afghanistan--let alone see them try and start patrolling in Pakistan and Turkmenistan. The US is so screwed it is now writing science fiction.
If the bylaw passes when it returns to council in September, it could set a precedent in Canada — but questions about its legality remain.
Mississauga council votes unanimously to advance data centre moratorium
A proposed one-year pause on data centre applications was supported 11-0; the bylaw is subject to final approval in September.

This is just like the claims from Trump and Hegseth (amplified by media) that no one died in the Maduro operation, ignoring that some dozens of Venezuelans and Cubans did actually die. But they’re not white Americans so their deaths don’t count.
When Elon Musk says "zero" children died in Africa from his DOGE cuts, he really means zero children died who are *worthy of any concern.* It's vile coded signaling to his global fascist audience. From me and @polphilpod.bsky.social, a deep dive into Musk's fascism: newrepublic.com/article/2135...
Americans believe Israel is committing genocide in Palestine by a +19 margin Total: 43-24 Black: 51-9 Hispanic 42-16 Harris voters: 72-7 Independents: 45-16 22% of Trump voters as well Only some two dozen Democrats & two ex/outgoing Republicans (MTG & Massie) call it genocide
In reality we benefit greatly from trade with Canada/Mexico. But I think Trump would genuinely prefer not to have USMCA in place, which makes things difficult for Can/Mex from a negotiating perspective (although there is plenty of institutional support for USMCA so I doubt Trump will withdraw).
KILMEADE: So the USMCA, are you looking to update that? TRUMP: I don't care. I don't really want to. I'd rather be independent. Here's the thing -- Mexico and Canada need us. We don't need them.
Squished in the middle of this story was this heartbreaking paragraph. Unconscionable.
A lot of what-the-hell moments in this story, but building a data center in a floodplain in Louisiana is inviting the wrath of Poseidon.

My friends joke that I’m like an evangelist in the church of Superman, but whenever people insist it’s some ubermensch authoritarian strongman fantasy, I’m always like “you don’t get it man.” Superman is a fictional compassionate *ideal* to strive towards. He cares *too much*.
Seems like there might be lessons here about the importance and benefits of establishing your left-wing bona fides and making it clear whose interests you serve
I like Mamdani a lot but I also know that if just about any other Democrat made a big deal about "cutting red tape" they would be absolutely savaged as a ghoulish neoliberal who wants to let corporations feed poison ice cream to your children
I don't think it's an overly controversial statement to say that few public figures have done more to mainstream cranks and crackpots over the past 30 years than Oprah.
If governments turned off the spigot of money to Musk, he’d be done.
“Disease-carrying ticks were barely on Canada's radar until the 1990s, but scientists say various species are travelling north from the United States at a rate of 35 to 55 kilometres per year.” Canada must tariff the USA until they sort out their tick exportation problem. Thats how this works, ya?

It is every day more and disgusting that @mark-carney.bsky.social and other Canadian politicians refuse to stop using the personal website of the world’s most prominent white supremacist. Delete your accounts. Leave. There’s nothing to be gained by staying active there.

The political situation in Israel is like if the US had several whites-only parties, one extremely small multiracial communist party, and then the Black Party, which all of the white parties refused to coalition with on principle
the main Israeli opposition is as bad as Bibi on every issue that matters
