The second strategic failure is that the American people (re)elected a worthless fucking moron like Donald Trump, who is boundlessly confident despite knowing nothing about anything and so asked the US military to do the impossible for no reason at all because he got lucky in Venezuela.
This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.
All of these can be true at the same time: 1) The suspension reversal was corrupt 2) No FIFA rules were violated (Art 27) 3) Art 27 is ridiculous 4) This is not nearly FIFA's most corrupt action 5) FIFA's history of corruption doesn't justify this corruption 6) The red card by VAR was BS

The entire conceit of America is that we are a country without a nation. There is no birthright but the duty to carry on the torch of liberty to the next generation, & to welcome all those who swear allegiance to the rights of humanity, to common decency, to democracy, & to making a better tomorrow

Assuming Democrats ever re-obtain power, they cannot treat it as a mere change of party control, the next swing in the perpetual metronome of American democracy. They must characterize it as an AMERICAN RESTORATION, a new birth of constitutionalism in a dark sea of corruption and absurdity.
On the one hand, I weep for my city at this indignity. On the other hand, I look upon the faces of this crowd and feel neither pity nor brotherhood for them as fellow Americans. My thoughts are just with the EMTs who'll have to deal with the number of them who'll likely drop from the conditions.

interestingly under callais the only black lawmakers who could escape constitutional scrutiny are those elected by white voters, which is a pretty clear statement of who gets to be a legitimate political actor
Virginia Gov @abigailspanberger.com and Democratic legislature should pass immediate legislation to redistrict anyway. If the old confederate states can do it post Callais - so can Dems in Virginia if they care about saving our democracy.

Who cares? We used the packed Court—and the rest of the packed courts—to go Conan the Barbarian on them in the interim and make it as difficult as possible for the current generation of Republicans ever to taste power again!

If NATO survives the current Trump regime, I think it'll be a necessary adjustment for the U.S. to become a junior partner to the Europeans for a few generations.
We're gonna see folks come back out of retirement for One Last Job except it's going to be "mid-level US Attys who made their bones doing FARA work and maybe one or two major white collar cases" and they're going to be swinging a terrible swift sword like they're God's avenging angels in courtrooms
i don't care about any arguments against this. right now the sum total of my political advocacy is: crush the Republicans and make them pay. i don't care what comes after because until we do that nothing better is possible.
Stephen Wolf@stephenwolf.bsky.social · 5mo agoNew York Dems are reportedly still expected to push for a constitutional amendment that would let them redraw the congressional map in 2028 to counter GOP gerrymanders. Dems could target 3-4 seats currently held by GOP. Dems must pass it both in 2026 & 2027, then win voter approval in November 2027
One way to view all of capitalism is asking the question "what is the lowest bound of existence that can replace the mysterious?" again and again and replacing each piece. How little can we pay a worker that they will live long enough to work and sire replacements? How bad can we let the air get?

So far Trump has been very lucky in his military adventures - he lost military assets and wasted high-tech ammo, but no serious casualties. Since the GOP-controlled Congress refuses to rein him in, he'll keep starting new military adventures until one of them goes sideways and many Americans die.
if Donald Trump were to accuse you of treason and have you hanged on the Capitol steps i would bet my life savings that you could count the number of Republican objections on one hand these people are not your coworkers, they see you as an obstacle to be removed act accordingly
