The UCP might make Edmonton pay up to $170M to rip out its own bike lanes. I've heard reports that the UCP has been asking for costs of full network removals. City numbers put that at $150-170M This is the same gov't that just spent $130M on a glorified opinion poll.

The mantis is called the 'rice-pounding grasshopper' in Thailand (ตั๊กแตนตำข้าว), from the motion of its raptorial forelegs resembling the traditional manner of pounding rice to remove the husks. This one was drawn with this very brush.

Detail from a silhouette drawing in black ink of a mantis perching on a small, sparse shrub. Photographed with a penny and the fine traditional Chinese brush it was drawn with, the detail is tiny and intricate. The mantis can fit onto the penny itself.

THE WITCHING TREE (2019) Acrylic on Illustration Board - 6” x 6” An accidental shape on a scrap of illustration board evoked a sort of Lovecraftian tree. The board originally had a figure sketch on it from the work I did for Lucca Comics & Games.

This month The Printmakers Matrix contest theme is harvest, so I thought I would submit this print I made for my Manufactured Ecosystems art show about the future of pollinators and pollination. Every crop in my 16” x 20” linocut is one we harvest here

As described this is my 16” x 20” linocut print which has black text in a circle in the middle (“Our Fate is Tied that of the Insects”) surrounded by fruits and vegetables, food crops pollinated by insects grown in Ontario.

This Alberta provincial government wants to do everyone’s job but their own. Poorly They don’t know what they are doing and don’t care. It’s not good governance they are after, it’s populist politics - which it seems they discard as soon as they wring people out of their money and attention.

"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

All the spaceships from For All Mankind and Star City in one article! That's a lot of spaceships from an alternative universe, and concept art, and cool stuff. 🖖 This is just a (very long) overview, but expect to dive deep into the creation of these designs in the coming weeks and months.

My advice as a science illustrator is that if you ever get a chance to draw the Cambrian explosion, you should go all in and spend hours researching every single one of these insane animals. 🦞🐙🦀🦑 Evolution is such a trip. I'm so grateful to have briefly existed on this gorgeous planet. 🤯 #sciart

Cambrian Explosion by Matteo Farinella

At the beginning of the month Drexel University made public that they want to close the Academy of Natural Sciences at the end of the month. The academy is the oldest natural history museum in the Americas and this would end more than 200 years of research and outreach.
