FFS I thought we'd moved past the ignorance of illustrating stories about deadly heatwaves with photos of people frolicking at the beach/in lakes/in fountains. Heatwaves are the deadliest agents of climate change. They kill nearly half a million people each year, and that's only going to increase.

As someone who just published in one of these journals, it might seem hypocrit to repost. But this thread is to the point: OA fees in that journal are 10000$, we didn’t want to pay with taxpayers money. But even the other route had tremendous costs of 760€ per colored figure(!). A few comments on our recent paper: 1- The high end is based on the SSP585 scenario which was the only one available until 2300 in CMIP6, but according to the reduced-complexity models used in IPCC-AR6, the SSP370 scenario should also cross the limit beyond which most ice shelves become non-viable.
