It was the upstairs at iO in Wrigleyville - maybe 100 seats. Nobody knew he would be there.

Same. There was something that felt really radical about having a TV hero whose superpower was not just intelligence but thoughtfulness, and a kind of moral seriousness. Who showed from that first episode that you “win” by seeking to understand what seems like a threat.

This has been a terrible week for Star Trek fans. Picard's calm presence in the face of chaotic situations had a profound impact on me as a child. I hope Patrick Stewart understood how many lives he touched, how many he inspired.
This is a lovely point. Patrick Stewart was a product of the humanities, of liberal arts education. His life is a testament to the value humanities bring to us all.
